DECEMBER 21.2023 Obituaries Ceburn Godfrey Cebum Godfrey, 93, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Friday, De cember 15, 2023 at Wild wood Health Care, and was preceded in death by his wife Martha Sue Cox God frey who passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. He was bom January 12, 1930 to Love and Belle Godfrey in Talking Rock, Georgia. Cebum was a school bus driver for Pickens County for over 30 years and provided taxi service for the community at one time as well. Toward the end of his driving career, this allowed him to focus on his love for chicken and cattle farm ing. Cebum is survived by his daughter, Trena Godfrey of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Joy Godfrey of Talking Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Martha Godfrey of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Ken neth Lowman of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Adam and Michelle Godfrey, Damon Lowman, Lucy and Douglas Weatherford, T. J. Hester, Seth Godfrey, Isaac Crane, Eli Godfrey; great-grandchildren, Jack Godfrey, Julianna God frey; and sister-in-law, Mary Cook of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sue God frey; son, Lamar Godfrey; brothers, Cecil Godfrey, Earl God frey, James Godfrey, and Clebum Godfrey. Martha Godfrey Martha Sue Godfrey, 88, of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Wildwood Health Care, followed in death by her husband Cebum Godfrey, 93, of Talking Rock on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Wildwood Health Care. She was bom October 26, 1935 to Farris Carter and Cordelia Cox in Tate, Georgia. Sue worked for the Pickens County School system for many years and loved reading and doing word puzzles. Sue is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Kenneth Lowman of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in- law, Joey and Joy Godfrey of Talking Rock; daughter, Trena Godfrey of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Martha Godfrey of Jasper; grandchildren, Adam and Michelle God frey, Damon Lowman, Lucy and Douglas Weatherford, T. She was bom June 15, 1949 to J.L. and Nora Davis in West Monroe, Louisiana. Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Steve Chance of Talking Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Sal vador Ramirez of Talking Rock; grandsons, Brandon and "Taz" Parris of Talking Rock, Bobby Parris of Louisville, Kentucky, Dustin Clark of Talking Rock; great-granddaugh ter, Oaklynn Summers Parris; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Paul King of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother, Jerry Davis of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Helen Davis of Jasper; nieces and nephews, Leslie Wilkie, Chip Davis, Stacy Burke, Bill Young, Karen Walden, Daniel Young, Shannon Canoles, Jay Davis, Angela Cagler, Kay Coombes; step-chil dren, Marcus Chance, Edward Chance, and Jessica Chance. She was bom January 7, 1942 to Thomas Luther and Gladys McFarland in Atlanta, Georgia. Wanda is survived by her husband, Joe Earnest of Jasper; daughter, Candi and Rickey Hall of Talking Rock; grandsons, Colton Hall of Talking Rock, Grayson Hall of Talking Rock; sister, Sheila Mosher; one nephew and three nieces. Brenda Smith Brenda Young Smith, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Fri day, December 15, 2023 following a brief illness. Bom January 3, 1944 to the late Lloyd and Pauline Young, Brenda was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. She was a devout Christian and attended Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Church in Dawsonville. Brenda was a beloved member of the community who spent over 40 years working at Dawson County Bank/United Community Bank until her retirement. She was a talented accordion player and spent many years singing gospel music with her family at many churches in the area. Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harvey Smith. Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Emelita Young of Dawsonville and other relatives. Myra Collett Mrs. Myra Jo Collett, Mema, 89, of Jasper, Georgia went home to celebrate Christmas with Jesus on Tuesday, Decem ber 12, 2023. Welcoming her to heaven were her parents Curtis and Ruby McWhorter, the love of her life, husband- Raymond Collett, her son-Greg Collett, and brother-Dwight McWhorter. Myra is survived by her son and daughter in law, Kenny and Ginny Collett, her grandchildren: Lydia & Wesley Bur nett, Jeremy & Audrey Collett, and Lauren & Ryan Fleming. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Noah and Chatham Burnett, Levi, Lane, Emma and Moya Collett, and Piper Fleming, as well as numerous extended family and life long friends. For the last 2 A years Mema resided at The Retreat As sisted Living in Jasper, GA and was taken care of by a team of angels who treated her like their own family. Funny. Brave. Brutally Honest. Survivor. Fierce, and some would say a bit stubborn. Mema’s wit and humor have pro vided great memories over the years. She retired from Southern Bell and loved to spend her time cheering on the Braves, spending time with her family, and preparing delicious food. Her teacakes were heavenly and even when she thought they weren’t perfect, her family devoured them. Myra was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church and was a member of Helping Hands and in volved in their international mission trips to Jamaica. She was also a member of the church choir, and her beautiful alto voice is now singing in the heavenly choir. John Arrendale August 14, 1925 - December 6, 2023 U.S. Veteran Mr. John Hugh Arren dale, formerly of Tate, GA passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 6, 2023 at his assisted living home in Loganville, GA. He was 98 years old. Mr. Arrendale was predeceased by his wife Ruth Cox Ar rendale of Tate, GA. He is survived by two daughters, Lynne & (Wallace) Harper of Loganville, GA and Marsha & (Phil) Craig of Nokomis, FL; one grandson Benjamin & (Megan) Craig of Peachtree City, GA and two great-grandchildren John (Jack) and Addison Craig. Mr. Arrendale proudly served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In his early career, he worked with the REA in building some of the earliest power lines in the North Georgia mountains, and then he had a long career with The Georgia Marble Company, serving as their electrical foreman. Mr. Arrendale was interred beside his wife at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Tate, GA with the Reverend Jimmy Orr officiating. The graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. The family appreciates the efforts of the caregivers at Ben ton House Grayson Georgia assisted living and Capstone Hospice for the outstanding care given during John's final days.
