Ruth’s Remembrances My Little Rciy of Sunshine I was at Hill City El ementary’s last day of the school year when the school’s graduates came to march through the hall of their old alma mater. I got to see a lot of faces that I remembered. But one face in particular brought back fond mem ories. When I began working at Hill City, one ofmy jobs was to be the lunchroom monitor during breakfast, welcoming the students as they arrived. I was accus tomed to greeting students who were sleepy or didn’t want to go to school that day. But there was one stu dent in particular that I didn’t have to encourage each morning. She would come in each day, full of energy, with a bright smile on her face, so glad to be there. I called her my Little Ray of Sunshine. You see, this little kindergartner was blind. She could see nothing but shadows, but she was so glad to be there each and every morning. The amazing thing is that she has not lost her sunshine throughout her school years. Just know, Char- lee Ray, that you have brought sunshine and joy to each and every person your sunshine has come in contact with. Go forward and let it shine. PS. I will be, as they say, taking a hiatus dining the summer. Good Lord willing, I will return in the fall. - By Ruth Parker Make plans for floats in July 4th parade : * Jasper Lions Club 2024 Independence Day Celebration “Celebrate the U.S.A.! ” Parade Registration Parade line-up/check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 4tli on Stegall Drive behind LC Tacos and Margaritas Parade steps off at 11:00 a.m. Group and Name of Contact: Type of Entry (include no. of vehicles) Contact’s Address: Contact’s Phone Number: Contact’s Email Address: Brief narrative that can be read from the reviewing stand about the entry: NOTE: For the duration of the parade, all participants must refrain from engaging in hate speech, from displaying signage that includes obscene/offensive language, and from other obscene displays. We’re too familiar with the perception of the ‘old folks’ home’ and no one wants to end up there, right? But is that perception today’s reality? The answer is a resounding no. Senior living communities aren’t where you go to start the end; they’re actually designed to help you start a new beginning.
