Minister’s Corner
a recreation of the Mercy
seat. The Mercy Seat was
on the Ark of Covenant
(Lev. 16:2). On the Day of
Atonement (Yom Kippur),
the High Priest would en
ter the Holy of Hollies and
sprinkle blood on the Mercy
Seat (Lev. 16:14). God him
self appeared on the Mercy
Seat and spoke to Moses
from between the cherubims
that was on top of Ark (Ex.
25:20-22). The priest had
to offer the same sacrifice
each year but the atone
ment Jesus made was a one
time offering forever (Heb.
10:12).
1 Cor. 15:6, Paul records
there were 500 witnesses
that saw Him after the Res
urrection.
Paul’s encounter with Je
sus on the road to Damascus
Acts 9:1-16.
Paul’s witness to King
Agrippa, was the Gospel
according to what Jesus
said in one verse: “To open
their eyes, and to turn them
from darkness to light, and
from the power of Satan
unto God, that they may
receive forgiveness of sins,
and inheritance among them
which are sanctified by faith
that is in me” (Acts 26:18).
His resurrected body
bears witness to His rising
from the dead by the scars
that mar His body and will
forever. How awful for the
religious who He sends
away, declaring, “I never
knew you!” (Matt. 7:22-
23). Should He gesture - for
them to depart - He will do
so with nail scared hands.
The objections to the res
urrection are not due to lack
of evidence but for the love
of sin.

June 16-June 23
June 16th:
On this day in 1978, Cincinnati Reds
pitcher, Tom Seaver, recorded his only ma
jor league no-hitter. Seaver allowed three
walks and recorded three strikeouts as the
Reds blanked the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-0.
This also marked the first time that a Reds
liurler had a no-no at Riverfront Stadium.
June 17th:
On this day in 1993, major league base
ball owners reached an agreement on ex
panding the postseason, adding four divi
sion series to the bracket. From 1969 until
the end of the ’93 campaign, the playoffs
consisted of one championship series per
league followed by the World Series. This
new format brought lour more spots into
the mix, including a pair of wild card teams.
The Atlanta Braves won the first champion
ship under this new arrangement, defeating
the Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds and
Cleveland Indians for the title.
June 18th:
On this day in 1986, California Angels
pitcher, Don Sutton, pocketed his 300th
big league victory. The milestone came in
a 5-1 win over the Texas Rangers as Sut
ton yielded three hits without a walk and
posted three strikeouts in 29 batters faced.
He retired in 1988 with 324 wins on his re
sume.
June 19th:
On this day in 1973, Pete Rose logged
his 2,000th career hit against the San Fran
cisco Giants. Rose met the mark on a sixth
inning single off San Francisco starter, Ron
Bryant. He drove in Reds third baseman,
Dan Driessen, while doing so. Rose went
four for five and scored a ran in the fifth as
Cincy shut out the Giants, 4-0.

June 20th:
On this day in 1970, Baltimore Orioles
shortstop, Brooks Robinson, collected the
2,000th hit of his major league career. The
accomplishment came dining a night en
counter with the Washington Senators at
Memorial Stadium. Robinson got to 2,000
on a three-run homer with two outs in the
bottom of the fifth. It was his only hit of the
game as the O’s hung on for a 5-4 victory.
June 21st:
On this day in 1972, St. Louis Cardinals
pitcher, Bob Gibson, became the franchise
leader for wins with 211, eclipsing Jesse
Haines for that top spot. He received plenty
of help as St. Louis jumped out to a 10-0
lead after the first three innings before
blowing away the San Diego Padres, 14-3.
Gibson put up seven frames, allowed three
hits and a run without a walk while also re
cording six strikeouts. He even helped his
own cause by smacking a three-run homer
with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
June 22nd:
On this day in 1987, the San Antonio
Spurs made Navy center, David Robinson,
the first overall pick of the NBA Draft.
Robinson arrived in the Lone Star state
with a decorated collegiate resume, win
ning three straight Colonial Athletic Asso
ciation Player of the Year awards. He twice
led the entire nation in blocked shots and
once for rebounds in 1986. Robinson even
guided the Midshipmen to the Elite Eight
that same season. The Admiral brought that
same working and winning mentality with
him to the Spurs. Robinson spent his entire
14-year career in San Antonio, helping the
franchise make the playoffs 13 times and
win a pair of NBA titles.

Despite Turns 1, 2, 3,

a repave to a track, it only
has one groove to run in the

gle-file racing. That was not
the case for this Iowa Cup
race as there was more than
one groove in the turns to
run and we saw a lot of side-
by-side racing and passing.
There were a few problems

need to come out. Gragson
just got sideways and kept it
going straight, and Hemric
just hit the wall lightly, but
he kept his car going and
did not leave any debris on
the track. The other thing
wrong with the race is that
the tire fall-off was not very
significant. Blaney took two
tires on the last pit stop and
despite the fact his left-side
tires were over 100 laps old,
he was still able to hold off
Byron to win. Strategy is al
ways good and can work for
a driver to win a race, but a
driver should not be able to
win a race on over 100 lap
old left-side tires. Despite

those hiccups, this race was
still good with all the fun
racing. The two cautions
that did not need to come out
did not affect this race in any
major way, and the finish
was somewhat exciting with
Byron trying to run down
Blaney for the win. So, all in
all, a much better Iowa Cup
race than expected.
Next week, the Cup se

Hampshire is on the shorter
side of racetracks (1 mile),
but if Iowa can put on a
