Big decision tonight:
Legacy 75 zoning and
approval vote on county agenda
WALTER GEIGER

The Lamar County
commission will take up
the matter of the mam
moth Legacy 75 propos
al along 1-75 tonight at a
public hearing and later
at its regular meeting.
Developer Doug
Adams plans a Class
A development along
the interstate and is
seeking to rezone some
1100 acres with the vast
majority of the land
located on the western
side of the interstate.
The joint planning
commission held a sec
ond hearing on the mat
ter Oct. 10 and voted
3-2 for approval with a
long list of conditions.
They learned Adams
has taken a rock quarry
and a high-density resi
dential development
near High Falls Lake off
the table.
The county commis
sion is not bound by
the planning commis
sion decision in that its
members only serve in
an advisory role.
The county will con
duct its hearing on the
zoning request at 6 p.m.
tonight with the final
decision on the agenda
for the regular meeting
which follows at 7 p.m.

Trojans rout Eagles 64-6; host
Putnam Co. for homecoming Friday
WALTER GEIGER

The winless Utopian
Academy Eagles rolled
into town Friday night
having been outscored
257-6 and offering up a
golden opportunity for
LC to pad some stats
and they did just that.
LC recorded a safety
early in the game to
make it 2-0. Markiviya-
on Dugger returned the
ensuing kick 62 yards
for a TD. Caleb Miller
nailed the PAT and
it was 9-0 before the
crowd had settled in.
Kaden Carter scored
on a 19-yard run and
Miller’s PAT made it 16-
0. Bryson Johnson then
took an Eagle fumble
to the house for a TD.
Miller again was true
and it was 23-0.
JahNizae Few scored
on a four-yard run but
the two-point attempt
failed to make it 29-0.
Carter then hit Kenya
Barnes with a 16-yard
TD pass. Miller’s PAT
made it 36-0 at the end
of the first period.
The beatdown con
tinued in the second
quarter with Qua Hugh-
ley scoring on a one-
yard plunge, Dugger
breaking off a 15-yard
TD run and Carter get
ting loose on a 54-yard
TD run. Miller nailed
all thee PATs and it was
57-0 at the half.
Malik Watts scored
on a seven-yard run in
the third period. Miller
again nailed the kick
and it was 64-0.
The Eagles scored on
an 84-yard TD pass late
in the game against the
LC reserves. The PAT
failed.
LC had 234 total
yards to 54 for the
Eagles who were held
to -48 yards rushing.
Carter had 92 yards
rushing and two TDs
on just six carries. Few
had three carries for 44
yards and a TD. Other
ballcarriers of conse
quence (carries-yards)
were Joshua McDade
(1-27), Barnes (1-19),
Dugger (1-15) and Jawin
Hamm (1-10).
“We talked about
execution and attend
ing to detail all week
at practice. We talked
about creating opportu
nities. We were able to
do those things Friday
night. We got a lot of
backups into the game
and it was good to see
them in a varsity game,”
Trojan coach Travis El
lington said.
It’s homecoming
week and with that
comes a whole host of
distractions. LC (6-1,
3-0) hosts the Putnam
County War Eagles (4-4,
3-1) Friday at 7:30 at
Trojan Field. The War
Eagles beat Towers
48-14 Friday night in
Eatonton.
LC is tied atop the
region standings with
Social Circle (5-2, 3-0).
LC travels there next
Friday night for what
will be a critical game.

Greenwood
Cemetery
expansion work
underway
A logging crew began
work last week at the rear
of Greenwood Cemetery
in Barnesville as phase
one of an expansion there
got underway. Trees are
being removed and debris
burned.
The city plans to add
six-seven rows of graves on
the newly cleared portion
on roads that run roughly
north-south. Grading will
follow the tree removal.
The cemetery prop
erty, owned by the City
