Parker wins Master Showman award
Gracen Aly Parker of Lamar County, a freshman at St. George’s Episcopal School, won the
Georgia Master Showman category for market lambs in the state livestock show at the Georgia
National Fair in Perry Oct. 5. “I am extremely proud of Gracen Aly for this accomplishment
which is no easy feat. This young lady is passionate and determined when it comes to livestock
showing. She puts in hours upon hours of hard work to prepare,” county agent Hailey Partain
said.
Gracen Aly is the daughter of Sean and Lynn Parker whom Partain credited as being her
biggest supporters.
Genealogy workshop Oct. 19
There will be a free
genealogy workshop
October 19, 2024 at 10:30
a.m. at the Barnesville
Lamar County Library.
The Lamar-Lafayette
Chapter, NSDAR, is spon
soring a free genealogy
workshop to teach com
munity members how to
research, compile, and
document their family
members and their histo
ries. Information will also
be shared about the Na
tional Society Daughters
of the American Revolu
tion and the application
process. All community
members are invited.
Online and other re
sources will be reviewed
and demonstrated. Par
ticipants are encouraged
to bring their laptops or
tablets so that they can
connect to recommended
websites and work with
them during the work
shop. There will be some
time allotted for present
ers to assist attendees
with their genealogy and
with their DAR applica
tions.
A limited number of
spaces are available. Pre

City to install security
camera system downtown

Barnesville will soon
be installing a security
camera system down
town acting city manager
Tammy York told the
city council at its regu
lar meeting Oct. 7. The
hope is the cameras will
deter vandals who have
damaged Christmas and
other displays downtown
in recent years.
Grant funds have been
applied for and York is
studying various equip
ment types.
