Titletown: LC softball,
volleyball host state matchups
Both the Lamar Coun
ty volleyball and softball
squads are hosting state
tournament matchups
this week after winning
area and region titles.
The #4 seeded Lady
Trojan volleyball team
hosts #29 Rabun County
in first round action
Wednesday at 5 p.m. at
the LC gym. A win would
match them up with the
Lake Oconee Academy-
Bryan County winner
Saturday.
The Lady Trojan
softball team upset Social
Circle last week in the
region tourney and is a
#1 seed going into post
season action. They host
Swainsboro in a double-
header Thursday at
Aldora Field. Game one is
set for 4 p.m. with game
two to follow. If needed,
game three will be played
at noon Friday.
(Note: Game times
could change due to the
fact this is homecoming
week and GHSA interfer
ence. Monitor barnes-
ville.com for updates.)
Lady Trojans win region tourney
The Lamar County
Trojans seem to be
peaking at the right time
as they won the region
tournament last week,
upsetting the top seeded
host team Social Circle in
the championship game
in Social Circle.
The Lady Trojans
came from behind in
round one of the playoffs
to post a 6-5 win over
Jasper County. LC trailed
2-1 after five innings and
5-3 after six innings but
plated three runs in the
bottom of the seventh.
Bailey Gunter had a walk-
off rbi single to end it.
Lilly Tavares went the
distance in the circle for
LC, allowing eight hits
and striking out four.
Hailey Stanley had a solo
home run and two rbis
for LC.
Keelie Smallwood had
two hits and two rbis.
Kylee Kington had two
hits and one rbi. Gunter
and Kaden Flournoy also
had two hits each.
In the title game, LC
trailed Social Circle 3-2
after three innings but
scored twice in the top
of the fourth and fifth
innings to take a 6-3 lead.
They added three more
runs in the sixth and held
the top-seeded home
team scoreless the rest
of the way to claim a 9-3
win.
Dakota Crowley
posted a complete game
win for the Lady Trojans,
allowing only five hits
and striking out two.
Gunter went three for
four with a triple and
three rbis to lead the
LC attack. Leadoff hitter
Caitlynn Whittaker went
two for four and scored
three runs. Kington went
three four four, including
two doubles, and scored
three runs.
Stanley and Addison
Nail each had a hit and
one rbi.
LC hosts Swainsboro
Thursday in the first
round of the state play
offs. The doubleheader
begins at 4 p.m.. If neces
sary, game three will be
played Friday at noon
here.
Ready for state
Sophomore Wren Lonberg (above) and her teammates are rested and ready for the state
volleyball tournament. LC hosts Rabun County Wednesday in first round action. The match gets
underway at 5 p.m. in the LC gym.
