Murphey Building rehab continues
A large crane was in position downtown last week as trusses were put into place on the historic Murphey Building. The sec
tion of Zebulon Street in front of the building was shut down during that time. The building is being converted to a mix of retail
and residential units.

reassess.
We arrived late that
Sunday, tired, worried
and in desperate need
of a good night’s rest.
Mrs. Paulette was there
to oblige, treating us
like family. She and her
granddaughter, Jess,
even brought us fresh-
laid eggs and a half
gallon of milk the next
morning. 1 was blown
away by her warm wel
come and hospitality.
On Monday, know
ing we were still uneasy
about returning home,
she kindly offered to
move us to her other
house down the road,
which was more suitable
for small children since
it was all on one level.
Not only that, but after
our second night, she
refused to accept pay
ment and insisted we
stay until it was safe to
return home. Little did 1
know, Mrs. Paulette was
determined to help as
many people in need as
possible, refusing addi
tional payment from the
other families as well.
During our short week
in Barnesville, my family
and 1 had the pleasure
of shopping at Ingles
multiple times, allowing
us to cook a homemade
breakfast each morning
and save money dur
ing this difficult time.
Then, on Wednesday, we
decided to have a family
dinner out at American
Pie Pizzeria.
However, our almost
one-year-old had other
plans. No worries—the
lovely ladies at Ameri
can Pie were quick to
lend a helping hand,

All this occurred just
hours before a called

next morning at the
Milner library.
A crowd of 15-20 peo
ple, including Gilles and
Tillery, was on hand at

up. Those members are
Joe Bostwick, Tausha

The doors to the

No notice of the cancel

supplies they had stowed
in the back. Fantastic
customer service to
complement the deli
cious pizza we brought
back to the house. All in
all, the charming town of
Barnesville helped keep
our kids’ minds off the is
sues back home that only
grown-ups should have
to worry about.
Fast forward to today,
the day after the hur
ricane, and I’m enjoying
the biggest pulled pork
sandwich I could fit on
one bun, buttery corn-
bread muffins and home
made peach cobbler. I’m
sitting at the table with
Michael and his fam
ily from Tampa, Kaleigh
from Orlando (well,
technically Sanford) and
Cindy and her mother
from Bushnell; Floridians
from all over, ranging in
age from one to, well, 1
didn’t ask how old the
‘grown-ups’ were. Re
gardless, the setting was
nothing short of incred
ible. It’s just what you
imagine when you think
of ‘Southern hospitality’.
None of this would
have been possible
without two things: the
unparalleled hospitality
of Paulette and Carey
Bunn and their fam
ily who treated us all as
their own. And Airbnb,
for helping us find Bunn
Ranch.
I’ll close with a quote I
often borrow and use to
sound profound at work:
“If you want to cre
ate a great product, just
focus on one person.
Make that one person
have the most amazing
experience ever.” —Brian
Chesky, founder and CEO
of Airbnb.
I’m sure Brian never
imagined Airbnb provid
ing this type of amazing
experience’ but I’m abso
lutely certain that I can
say, on behalf of every
one at dinner tonight, he
has accomplished that
vision.
