Compiled from a summary of incident reports
completed by Lamar deputies during the period Oct.
9-16, 2024.
On Oct. 9, Dep. Barclay Banta responded to Lot 12
at Fuller’s Trailer Park where a woman reported the
sunroof on her grandaughter’s 2005 Toyota Avalon
had been smashed. She suspected a group of people
who had been playing basketball until midnight the
night before.
On Oct. 9, Dep. Mike Womack was dispatched to
548 Old Milner Rd. where a camouflage climbing deer
stand valued at $300 had been stolen from a carport.
On Oct. 10, Dep. Rachel Harris responded to 1261
City Pond Rd. where a man reported a Fed Ex driver
had hit a shade cloth attached to a barn. The area the
driver turned around in was clearly marked with a no
turn around sign and the property owner had video
of the incident. Fed Ex promised to send a representa
tive and the victim needed a report.
On Oct. 11, Sgt. Hope Thompson met with Tina
Lewis at the sheriff’s office. Lewis said she was in
carcerated for five months and, during that time, her
house was emptied of all its contents and trashed.
On Oct. 11, Dep. Joseph Stoy assisted Zebulon
police with a free air sniff check of a vehicle stopped
on Hwy. 18 near Dairy Queen. K9 Tank alerted on the
vehicle and the female driver admitted there was a
marijuana pipe in her purse. Stoy located the purse
and pipe and also found multiple clear bags contain
ing meth.
On Oct. 13, at 6:23 a.m., Dep. Benjamin Thiel along
with Sgt. Gebelein and Ofc. Manoogian of the BPD
went to 208 North Street to serve a violation of proba
tion warrant on Charity L. Harden, 39. Harden’s moth
er answered the door and led Thiel to her daughter’s
bedroom door. Harden was located and cuffed.
Harden’s probation carried a search and specimen
clause so a search of her room was conducted. Two
pipes were located that had narcotic residue. Also
found were a partially smoked joint and an ‘ooze’
container with meth in it. Harden went to jail charged
with the probation violation, possession of meth, pos
session of marijuana and possession of drug related
objects.
On Oct. 13, Dep. Thiel was dispatched to a home
at 497 McKneely Rd. regarding a physical domestic
dispute in progress. A juvenile male was on the line
reporting his stepfather had punched him in the face.
Thiel located the juvenile victim who stated the argu
ment began when his parents threw away a toy gun
he had bought with his own money. He admitted to
using profanity toward his mother.
The victim said his stepfather, 35-year-old Dustin
Lanham, followed him outside, struck him in the face
and placed his hands around his throat. The victim
fled to his room but said Lanham followed him in
there, striking him in the right side of his face and left
eye. At that point, the victim said he began to fight
back at which point Lanham kicked his feet out from
under him and pinned him to a bed.
At that point, the victim’s grandmother stepped in
to stop the melee. A 13-year-old friend of the victim
witnessed the attack. Lanham admitted to ‘losing
control’ and striking the victim
Two other children, ages eight and 10, were in the
home at the time. Lanham went to jail charged with
first degree malicious cruelty to children, cruelty to
children and battery.
On Oct. 14, Dep. Banta met with a man at the
sheriff’s office who reported $2500 had been moved
from his United Bank to an account he has with USAA.
He had previously had issues with the USAA account
and froze the funds. A report was completed for bank
investigators.
On Oct. 15, Dep. Harris was dispatched to a home
at 216 Howard Rd. owned by MCS Properties where a
contractor had arrived to find the door open and the
water heater moved from original location. The water
lines had been cut and the home was flooded.
C1D was called in.
