PIKE COUNTY S. S. ASSOCIATION HOLDS
SEMI-ANNUAL SESSION.
Oh last Wednesday according
to previous announcement the
j pike Cos. S. S. Association Held
their semi-annual meeting in the
j Methodist church at Zebulon.
Owing to the inclemency of the
weather the attendance was small,
| hut larger than was at one time
expected.
The schools represented were:
Zebulon Methodist and Baptist,
Meansville, Weaver, Midway,
Williamson and Barnesville by
R. Y. Beckam, Dr. J. B. Mathews,
J. L. Aldrege, J. C. Wood, J. F.
Nipper and T. W. Cochran re
spectively, and from Barnesville,
C. T. Tyler, president of Associa
tion, Major Hunt and Col. C. J.
Lester.
After singing by choir and con
gregation an and prayer by Dr.
Mathews, the morning hour was
taken up by Dr. J. B. Robins, P.
E. of (iriflin district who made a
most admirable and forceful ad
dress. He discussed the import
ance of development of the will.
He made a fine impression on his
hearers. He insisted that the S.
S. workers needed to stress the
importance of will power to their
students.
In the afternoon there were
some vital questions discussed,
and goo and suggestions made.
Among them were; “How shall
we successfully increase our Sun
day School membership?” T o
this question Rev. C. V. Weathers
and Major Hunt spoke. Mr .
Weathers took the position that
one of the causes of a deficiency
in attendance upon Sunday school
was the small number of adult
members being interested suffic
iently to attend regularly, another
is the lack of efficient teachers.
He refored to one School in Geor
gia of which he had been pastor
where there were efficient teachers
and much interest manifested
upon the part of adult members,
and that, that School had reached
all the community. He believed
with competent teachers we could
reach and interest all classes.
Major Huat spoke on the question
and emphasized the importance
of good consecrated teachers. He
spoke from an experience of fif
teen years efficient teaching. Bro.
Robins gave his views of another
question which was sprung and it
was also discussed by W. T. Coch
ran, Col. Lester, j. L. Aldrege
and J. C. Wood. The President,
Bro. Tyler, made some fine sug
gestions. About half past three
in the afternoon the meeting ad
journed with doxology and bene
diction.

SOME SUGGESTIONS.
A FEW LADIES TELL HOW BAD
MAY BE TURNED INTO GOOD.
A WOMAN THINKS WOMEN CAN SAVE
“THE COUNTRY.”
Isn’t it characteristic of our
dear “Lords of Creation” to ap
peal to the women whenever af
fairs have reached such a crisis as
that they can see no possible way
of escape? And we wouldn't mind
it so much if we got credit for it,
but it’s always the same old story
of how “me and Bettie killed the
bar,” when really “me” ran as
fast as his legs would carry him
in another direction and Betty
killed the bear alone and remained.
“When a woman will, she will;
you may depend upon it!”
For years we have needed a
Presbyterian Manse and anew
Methodist church here, but not
until the women took the matter
in hand has there seemed the
shadow of a possibility to have
either.
If our bank had been under the
direction of women it never would
have been without a president, for
if women believe in anything it is
in holding office.
With all due respect to the men
who compose the reorganization
committee, “for they are all hon
orable men,” had this same com
mittee been composed of women
the factory would now be in ope
ration. They would have met
together, all talked at once, thus
expediting matters, besieged the
moneyed men so that they’d long
ago have planked down the last
dollar they had, realizing that it
was money or earthly torment.
These troubles may lie turned
into good if they will only serve
to convince the men that women
should be consulted about every
thing. Women are good advisers,
being naturally better, more high
minded and more far-sighted than
men. Hereafter let the men ask
our advice beforehand, and not
having waited until a terrible
crash has come, call upon us to
suggest ways and means by which
so much mis-management and
consequent loss may be turned in
to good. Nancy Lee.
WIVES SHOULD BE MEN’S BUSINESS
PARTNERS.
I am certain that our troubles
would have been averted if the
men had consulted their wives.
Men too often keep their business
affairs from their wives, thinking
perhaps that women don’t know
anything about business. They
may not, but they have intention,
which is more unerring than the
judgement of men. I think it is
the duty of every husband to let
his wife know exactly what his
condition is, so that she can ad
vise and govern herself in accord
ance with that condition. I sug
gest, therefore, that men who have
wives consult with them about all
their business transactions. To
those who have no wives let them
reform immediately.
Married Woman.
DISPENSe WITH THE DISPENSARY.
1 am satisfied that the “tank”
is the cause of nil our trouble and
think we had better dispense with
it. It has been the bone of con
tention under the present and all
past management. This is my
candid opinion. “Aunty.”
A WORTHY SUCCESSOR
“SOMETHING NEW UNDER
THE SUN.”
All doctors have tried to cure CA
TARRH by the use of powders, acid
gases, inhalers and drugs in paste form.
Their powders dry upon the mucuous
membranes, causing them to crack
open and bleed. The powerful acids
used in the inhalers have entirely eat
en away the same membranes that
their makers have aimed to cure, while
pastes and ointments cannot reach the
disease. An old an experienced practi
tioner who has tor many years made a
close study and specialty of the treat
ment of CATARRH, has at last per
fected a Treatment which when faith
fully used, not only relieves at once,
but permantly cures CATARRH, by
removing the cause, stopping the dis
charges. and curing all inflammation.
It is the only remedy known to science
that actually reaches the afflicted parts.
This wonderful remedy is known as
“SNUFFLES, the GUARANTED CA
TARRH CUKE” and is sold at the ex
tremely low price of One Dollar, each
package containg internal and external
medicine sufficient for a full month’s
treatment and .everything necessary to
its perfect use;
“SNUFFLES” is the only perfect CA
TARRH CUivE ever made and is now
recognized as the only safe and positive
cure for that annoying and disgusting
disease. It cures all inflammation
quickly and permantly and is also won
derfully quick to relieve HAY FEVER
A LAY SERMON.
In compliance with your request
in last week’s News-Gazette, I
wish to offer a few suggestions as
to how our financial troubles can
be turned to good.
The greatest thing on earth to
bring good is prayer and faith.
Many people have been comforted
in the last hour by prayer. We
should not be looking on the
dark side, but pray and believe.
There is always a bright star along
by the line of the cross of the Son
of God. There is but one power
and that is God’s. The powers
that are are the powers that be.
Christ is God’s and we are
Christ’s. Christ says, I am
strong: I have overcome the
world. If you lean on Me I will
bring you out all right. He says,
too, follow Me. Our Divine Leader
is a spirit. He will lead, but will
not follow. We should always
follow the guidance of the Spirit,
regardless of what man should say
or think. You may be shut in on
all sides with troubles or misfor
tunes. In earnest prayer put all
your affairs in the hands of God—
you will come out all right.
Christ says, whatsoever ye ask
in My name that will I do, that
the Father may be glorified in the
Son. If we know the Son we
know the Father also. Christ has
great power, but he seems to pre
fer to wait until he is especially
needed to show his power. And
as His Father works through Him
so does He work through His fol
lowers.
Let us notice the story of Paul.
Whether it was a fixed plan of
God’s or not, he was halted on
his way to kill Christians and God
ever cares for his own. If you
will notice he was called Saul be
fore the scales fell from his eyes,
and God is able now to raise up
Pauls and flourishing cities.
“Narcissa.”
HEREAFTER, OWE NO MAN NOTHING.
The best suggestions I have to
make is to obey the word of God.
Owe no man anything. What
is your neighbor’s dare not covet.
Make not a willful lie nor love
it.
And be sure your sin will find
you out.
Though hand joined in hand
the wicked shall not be unpunish
ed.
Pride goeth before destruction
and a haughty spirit before a fall.
God is angry with the wicked
every day.
Vengeance is mine: I will re
pay, saith the Lord.
Remember God’s word and do
what he says and it will be turned
into good. Renlim.
TO FORGIVE IS DIVINE.
I suggest that all of us, both
men and women, remember that
“to err i3 human, to forgive de
vine.” Let’s turn to the future
with determined purpose and wil
ling hands. Charity.
HELP THE NEEDY.
Suppose we all patronize liberal
ly the Presbyterian luncheon, the
Methodist Market Circle and the
Baptist Colonial Tea—we’ll then
have to forget our past troubles.
