HEAD NOISES CEASE IMMEDIATELY.
F. A. WERMAN, OF BALTIMORE, SAYS:
Baltimore, Md., March 30, 1901.
Gentlemen : Being entirely cured of deafness, thanks to your treatment, X will now give you
• full history of my case, to be used at your discretion.
About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost
my hearing in this ear entirely
X underwent a treatment for catarrh, for three months, without any success, consulted a num
ber of physicians, among others, the most eminent car specialist of this city, who told me that
only an operation could help me, and even that only temporarily, that the head noises would
then cease, but the hearing in the affected ear would be lost forever.
I then saw your advertisement accidentally in a New York paper, and ordered your treat
ment. After I had used it only a few days according to your directions, the noises ceased, and
to-day, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. I thank you
heartily and beg to remain Very truly yours.
V. A. WERMAN, 730 S. Broadway, Baltimore, Md.
Our treatment does not interfere with your usueil occupation.

Good for Rheumatism.
Last fall I was taken with a very se
vere attack of muscular rheumatism
which caused me great pain and annoy
ance. After trying several prescrip
tions and rheumatic cures, I decided to
Use Chamberlain’s Pain Balm, which
I had seen advertised ’in the South
Jerseyman. After two applications of
this Remedy I was much better, and
after using one bottle, was completely
cured. —Sai.’i.ie Harris, Salem, N. J.

The Report Was Correct.
Sir Alfrid Laurier, the Canadian
premier, was on a speechmaking
tour of Ontario during the recent
byelections in that province and the
province of Quebec. The elections
were bitterly contested, and etforts
were made both by the Liberals and
Conservatives to stir up race and re
ligious prejudice. A Quebec Liberal,
whose acquaintance with Sir Wilfrid
was only political, sent this tele
gram to his leader:
Report In circulation In this county that
your children have not been baptized.
Telegraph denial.
To which dispatch the premier
6ent this reply:
Sorry to say report Is correct. I have

Green Corn In England.
In spite of Avar abroad and taxs
at home, Great Britain found some
thing to be thankful for last year.
A London periodical, soberly noting
that “the maize plant from Ameri
ca” has long been grown in English
gardens “for decorative purposes,”
observes that “for eating in the
green state the cobs now find a
growing demand at the large hotels
in the west end.”
This means that the mother coun
try has discovered green corn and
will henceforth use it “for decora
tive purposes” after the American
Etyle—cob in hand.
Winter Is the Patent Season.
This is the busy season with the
commissioner of patents. It is a
fact not generally known, however,
that the busy season m the patent
office invariably occurs between De
cember and April. Few would dream
of a “busy season” in the matter of
applications for patents and would
naturally suppose that about the
same number were filed one month
as another, but such is not the case.
By far the larger number of appli
cations reach the commission dur
ing the aforesaid period.—Washing

Where Advertising Pays.
i
!
The leading business men of
Syracuse, N. Y., have signed an
agreement to confine their adver
tising to the newspapers. They
have tried various means of
reaching the public, and their ex
perience has been identical with
that of others who have done the
like. That is to say; they have
found that only the newspaper
returns a profit on the money ex
pended in that way.
Advertising, these days, is no
matter of haphazard, but an art.
In time in may become a science.
At any rate, the skill exerted in
the working, display and placing
of advertisements is already one
of the most remarable features
of modern business progress. And
more and more with every suc
ceeding ypar the advertiser who
keeps abreast, of the times is re
stricting himself to the medium
of the newspaper.
The business houses in the great
cities that, lead in their respective
lines of trades advertise exclusive
ly in the newspapers, and they
look upon the vast sums they ex
pend in that way every year not
merely as well invested, but as a
part, of the necessary cost of carry
ing on their business. They employ
at handsome salaries men who de
vote themselves altogether to the
preparation of advertisements,
and who knowhow to get the most,
effective display for them. Of
course, they would not incur all
this expense if experience had not
shown that the returns were in pro
portion to the outlay.
The verdict of the men who set.
the pace in business nowadays is
that the newspaper is the only
sure medium of communication
between the advertiser and the
public.
