My Flowers From Home.
O Lovely Flowers—tender thought of home,
Thou bringedst to me, tho’ far 1 roam,
In my mind’s eye I see the dear old place,
And at the door my kind mother’s face.
At the gate stands my three sisters, dear,
Father is in the old garden near,
Off to school now have the children started,
Only one from this group has parted.
To her they send sweet messages of love,
Bright and warm as sunlight from above
And you, sweet, flowers nre smiles and kisses,
From the dear ones (which someone misse .)
You, golden hearted jonquils represent,
Hearts rich with love which to me are sent,
You, fragrant violets purple and white.
Modest, pure, sweet—cause kind thoughts
to-night.
Sweetest of all, hyacinths, white and blue,
The blue, just like mother’s eyes so true.

Taking Time For Thinking
The part of farming that pays
the best in every sense is the
thinking part. A view quite dif
ferent from this used to be com
monly put into practice; now we
say—and the meaning is plain to
all —that the farmer who fertilizes
his fields with brains, best ferti
lizes them.
No farmer can, however, do
properly the thinking part in his
business as it should be done who
makes a drudge out of himself If
he uses up all his vital force in
physical effort he can have noth
ing left for that which is mental.
The mind must be fed and proper
ly exercised, if generally it is go
ing to do its work well.
And the best in the physical
mostly goes with the best in the
mental. A quick and capable
mind often works physical won
ders, doing sp not at all rarely
through the instrumentality of a
frail body. We need, as never
before now, the mental shaping
ing power in the conduct of every
farm, be it great or small.
From this it will be seen that
the farmer should have time to
reflect and observe. The observa
tions which he is almost compell
ed to make ought to have opportu
nity for drifting into groups of
thoughts which naturally they are
inclined to form. Such will lead
to reading, experiment—to the
seeking of more light.
Evory part of present-day farm
ing calls for more thought and
less drudgery in the case of all
having direct identifications with
this calling.
Even the farm laborer is no
longer the ignorant hireling that
the men of his class once were.
In the progress made—and with
the genius of invention coming
ing into help farming in many
ways—the farm laborer comes in
and regularly rises with all else
on the farm, often in due course
himself becoming the able employ
er of the labor of others.
The mind makes us men, and
makes it possible for us to rise.
In no branch of industry just
now is this more true than it is of
farming.—Ex.
“The blood is the life.” Science
has never gone beyond that sim
ple statement of scripture. But
it has illuminated that statement
and given it a meaning ever
broadening with the increasing
breadth of knowledge. When the
blood is “bad” or impure it is
not alone the body which suffers
through disease. The brain is al
so clouded, the mind and judge
ment are affected, and many an
evil deed or impure thought may
be directly traced to the.impurity
of the blood. No one can be well
balanced in mind and body whose
blood is impure. No one can
have a wholesome and pure life
whose blood is not pure. Foul
blood can be made pure by the
the use of Dr. Pierce’s Golden
Medical Discovery. When the
blood is pure, body and brain are
alike healthy and life becomes a
daily happiness.

THE COUNCIL’S PROCEEDINGS.
Council Chamber, )
Barnksville, Ga., Auc. 18., 1902 i
Regular meeting of council call

Committee reemmend the pay
ment of the following bills, and
same ordered paid:
Electric Light and Water Works 3(1.07,
Street and Public Property 174.81.
Total $210.88.
Attention was called to the fuct
that the report of the Clerk and
Treasurer, and report of Treasurer
of Gordon Institute, read aad ap
proved at last meeting of Coun
cil, were not published in the
minutes of that meeting, through
an oversight, and the clerk was
instructed to incorporate these re
ports in the minutes of this meet
ing, for the information of the
public.
Nuisance Committee reported
that, under the authority given
them by the Council, they had
employed a Sanitary Inspector,
in the person of Mr. J. R. Chap
man, who had already made one
inspection of the city, and was
now on his second round ; the city
had been found in fairly good
sanitary conditon, and that im
mediate steps had been taken to
correct all unsanitary conditions
discovered by the Inspector. They
also reported that the waste water
from the bleachery of the Oxford
Knitting Mills was now being run
down Railroad Street, instead of
across property of E. L. Rogers,
as formerly, and that the change
was entirely satisfactory to Mr.
Rogers, and other citizens in the
vicinity.
The Tax Committee stated that
they had not quite completed
their work of tabulating the tax
returns of the city for the current
year, and arriving at an equitable
tax rate thereon, and suggested
that an ajourned meeting some
time this week be held, at which
time they would be in a position
to make a report on this matter.
This Committee also recom
mended that the assessment on
property of Mrs. Bettie Jordan,
on Greenwood Street he reduced
to SIOOO.OO, and upon motion,
the assessment was reduced ac
cordingly by Council.
Alderman Gray introduced the
following resolution, which, upon
motion was adopted by Council.
RESOLUTION INTRODUCED HY
ALDERMAN GRAY.
Whereas, the Act establishing the
Dispensary in this City requires that
the Dispensary Commission shall
make quarterly reports to the Mayor

shall show the receipts and expenses

profits if any,
And, whereas, the accompanying re
port submitted by said Commission
on June 2, 1902, does not show the
amount of the net profits of said Dis
pensary as required by law, as pointed
out in the attached report made there
on by the Finance Committee ;
Therefore, he it resolved, That the
ClerkdTieasurer notify the Dispensary
Commission to at once amend their
report so as to comply with tin; law
and to furnish same to the Council by
its ajourned meeting on Thursday
night August 21st.

in this respect it differs from the report which

present report -hows stook on hand in round
figures, *IOOO 00, which Isa decrease in stock

Between the ages of fifteen and
forty-five, the time when woman
hood begins and motherhood ends,
it is estimated that the aggregate
term of woman’s suffering is ten
years. Ten years out of thirty I
One third of the best part of a
woman’s life sacrificed I Think of
the enormous loss of time! But
time is not all that is lost. Those
years of suffering steal the bloom

the form. They write their record

What a boon then to woman, is
Dr. Pierces Favorite Prescription.
It promotes perfect regularity,

Attractive Women.
All women sensibly desire to he at
tractive. Beauty is the stamp of
health because it is the outward mani
festation of inner purity. A healthy
woman is always attractive, bright and
happpy. When every drop or blood in
the veins is pure a beauteous flush is
on the cheek. But when the blood is
impure, mo rose ness, had temper and a
sallow complexion tells the tale of
sickness, all too plainly. And women
to-day know there is no beauty with
out health. Wine of Cardui crowns
women with beauty and attractiveness
by making strong and healthy those
organs which make her a woman. Try
Wine of C trdiii, and in a month your
friends will hardly know you.
