Quite a number in Barnesville have vineyardsand they are paying well. A great many grapes have already been shipped from here, and the de mand is good and prices are fair. The crop however, was shortened this year by the freeze in the spring, and there have not been enough gathered at a time so far, to ship a carload, hence they have to go by express, making the expense of ship ping greater. 1894 Good prices have been realized from all that have yet been shipped, and no doubt a nice sum will be net ted each owner of a vineyard. The grapes raised here are of a high quality aud ready sale is always found for them. Those who own vineyards here are: Messrs Murphey and Runt, Rose and Elder, Parker and Elder, T. W. Cochran, J. J. Rogers, J. M. Akin, JVV. Woodall, W. H. Chapman and B. H. Perdue. TOOK ALL THREE. The Barnesville and Forsyth teams played the last of three games of baseball on the Institute campus last Thursday afternoon. As in the two previous games, Barnesville was suc cessful. The Forsyth boys are mighty clev er, but they can’t play ball well enongh to down the Barnesville team. The game last Thursday was the best of the three played. Both teams were at their best and the game was exciting. Below is the score for each game: Ist. Barnesville 36: Forsyth 14. 2d. Barnesville 19: Forsyth 18. 3d. Barnesville 14: Forsyth 8. MEETING AT MILNER. The following news item appeared m the Macon Telegraph Sunday from Milner: “Quite an interesting series of meetings are going on now at the Milner Baptist church. The Rev. J. E. Powell is assisted by Rev. T. M. Callaway of Forsyth, Ga., who is much loved and admired by the peo ple for his great ability as a minister and bis many Christian graces. The meeting is a great success. Already several have been added to the church and others are expected. Indeed, the peoplo of this town and commu nity have much to be thankful for.” NOTICE. I will be at my gallery in Forsyth every Monday, and at my gallery here all the rest of the time. G. W. Grice. Baruesvill", Gr. THE STORES WILL NOT CLOSE A petition was circulated last week requesting the merchants to close their stores at G o’clock in the after noon, duriDg the month of August. A good many of the merchants signed it, but others would not, and as it is unfair for part to close and others to keep open, the matter was dropped. The stores will continue to remain open until 7 o’clock, the usual hour for closing. THE FATS AND LEANS. The Fat and Lean nine’s played a fame of baseball on the Institute campus last Friday afternoon. The game was quite an interesting one and was enjoyed by both players and spectators. The Fats were successful howev er as the game closed with a score 34 to 27 in their favor. Another game between these two nines will be played soon. It is expected that a good crowd will witness the game. FOR KENT. A second hand piano and organ for rent at §2 and $1.50 per month respectively. Reuter must keep them in good order as they are now. For further information apply at the office of The Gazette. Barnesville, Ga. RAINS PLENTIFUL. For a few weeks past rains have been quite plentiful. The crops are not suffering for the want of rain now, but art the contrary, if it con tinues to hill they may be damaged. It is to be hoped however, that the season will be favorable the re mainder of the time. HEBE ’TIS PLEASANT. There is not a pleasanter place anywhere to spend the summer more geutly and peaceably than Barnes ville. While it is by no means a gay place, ytt it is far from being dull. The people here are social, and always strive to make it pleasrnt for visitors. Our climate is superb. Sometimes it is very hot of course, but general ly speaking it is cool and pleasant. An excellent hotel provides for many without boing too crowded, while numerous private boarding houses can accommodate many more. Good water pure, clear and cool, is an advantage that is prized highly. Splendid churches and Sunday Schools, and many other thing*, with frequent social pleasures makes the time pass off pleasantly and quickly. Already there are several visititors here, who are enjoying their visit greatly. Others are expected to come soon. UNION MEETING. A UDion meeting of the 2J. Dis trict of the Towaliga Association of Primitive Baptists was held at Gog ginsville Friday, Saturday and Sun day. The meeting was largely attended I and a good time was had by those who were present. The leading ministers of this as sociation were present and aided in making the meeting a success. The good people of Gogginsville entertained those who attended the meeting in a hospitable manner. Quite a number from Barnesville were present. SHIPPING MELONS.
