Mrs. Arthur Jones and children have returned home to Macon after a pleasant visit to Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hightower near the city. Mr. Joseph Parish of Atlanta has been in the city a week or more. He represents an insurance company and is here in its inteiest. Straw rides, parties and entertain ments of various kinds are occupying the minds of the young people. They always get in for their share of the pleasure. Mr. C- C. Hightower, one of the very best men that ever lived in Monroe county and now its efficient tax receiver, was in the city Monday and Tuesday. Miss Fannie Chapman who has been visiting relatives at Brent for sometime, returned to the city last week aud is the guest of Dr. J. H. Connally’s family. Mrs. Loula K. Rogers has return ed home from a pleasant visit to her daughter, Mrs. H. Al. Franklin at Tenuille. She spent a month or more in south Georgia. She is a very pleasant young lady and has many friends here. Barnesville is about to get two more knitting mills, before the building for the one recently estab lished is completed. Three knitting mills in one year is doing very well. Prof. J. M. Pound and Mr. C. T. Tyler have returned from a trip to Upson, Merri wether and Harris counties. Asa result of their trip several new pupils will be enrolled at Gordon Institute this fall. Miss Susie Shaw of Madison, a very popular young lady, passed through the city Tuesday tn -route to Thomaston. She has visited here several times and is well known to many of our jcung people. Dr. T. R. Kendall of Atlauta arri ved in the city Monday morning and is the guest of his sister, Mrs. Loula K. Rogers. He is well and familiar ly known in Barnesviile and his visits here are always pleasant to both himself and friends. Mrs. R. J. Williams spent a day or two recently at McDonough with rel atives. Miss Arlie Murpbey went up to Griffin Saturday to a week with friends Mrp. Maud Redding went down to Macon Monday morniug to spend a few days with rtlatives. Mrs. M. T. Cook and Frank re turned Saturday morning from a pleasant visit to relaiives in K iton ton and Atlanta. They spent about a month at these places. Col. R. L. Merritt returned Satur day morning from nis father’s home in Monroe county, where he has been recuperating for Beveral weeks. He was much benefitted by the visit. Mr. F. Marvin Stephens, the clever and popular book-keeper of Mr. J. C. Collier, is off on a vacition. He left Tuesday night for Indian Springs where he will remain for several days. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Murpbey is sued invitations this week to a party at their home, Wednesday evening Aug 15, complimentary to Miss Ma rianne Hunt. The event was a pleas ant one. Mr. Tom Kendall Jr., with his younger brother aud sister, Master Bishop and Miss Rutn Kendall, have been spending a week with the fami ly of their aunt, Mrs. L. K. Rogers. They have had a pleasant time. Dr. A. J. Battle returned to Rome Friday morning after spending sever al days in the city. He met many of our people while here, who liked him very much. He was here in the interest of Shorter Female College. It is only a short time before the full term of Gordon Institute will open. If you expect to take board ers this fall, you have only a few weeks to prepare for them. Gordon Institute will open up with a larger number of stuJents than ever before. Mr. B. W. Elder has returned to New Orleans. He will return in a week or so and the remainder of his mill machinery will then be brought here. That which was brought here some weeks ago. is stored in Mur phey Hunt’s wareboue. Mr. Elder Las several chil Iren that be will place in Gordon Institute this fall. The fall term of Gordon Insti tute opens on Monday, .September 3rd, and the indications are that it will be the lirgest opening ever known to the school. The present prospects are gratifying indeed. Misses Eunice Johnston and Lila Price of Macon, Miss Rosalie Dew berry of Barnesville, Misses Roselyu and Evelyn Reid of Grjffin are visit ing the delightful country home of Capt. C. C. Hightower near Barnes ville, and no doubt they are having an eLgant time. Dr. Bishop has given several shows with his snakes, in the last week. He always has a good crowd who look with astonishment at his hand ling the snakes. He does it .rith the ease and indifference of one playing with so many sticks.
