Lions hear Dr. Harris advise them to
learn something, help someone daily
Dr. Pierce Harris, pastor of
the First Methodist Church
of Atlanta and Atlanta Journ
al columnist, told members of
the Donalsonville Lions Club
that the way to “stay young”
is to learn something new
and do something for some
body every day.
“You won’t grow old as long
as you are important to some
one,” he said.
Dr. Harris was licensed to
preach in 1915 and has been
a Methodist minister since.
He has been writing a daily
inspirational column for over
twenty years. He shared a
number of his experiences
with the men and their wives,
gathered in the annex of the
First Baptist Church for the
installation of new officers.

Jack Brannon was install
ed as president to succeed
Darby White. Other officers
are Dr. Robert Starling, Mer
rian Minter, Wallace Drake,
vice presidents; Leon Barnes,
secretary- treasurer, William
Arden Parker, lion tamer, and
Gil Kelley, tail twister.
Directors to serve for two
year terms are Dr. C. C. Stew- i
art and David Davis. Serving
one-year terms are Luther
Spooner and Watson Lee.
Mrs. Marion Roberts is the
club’s sweetheart-
J. B. Clarke installed the
new slate of officers.
Woodrow Jernigan led the
singing that opened the meet-|
ing. Gil Kelley led the pledge •
of allegiance to the flag, and
T. W. Beauchamp gave the ;
invocation.
John Hanna presented a
wards to Leon Barnes sores-I
ficiency as secretary; to J. B. !
Clarke for second place in the
state in publicity, and to the
club for its increase in mem
bership. The club has over a
hundred members.

Hay.
It is really looking nice and
adds to the beauty of the

It is good to see Wallace
Easom back on the job at
Easom’s Grocery and Market
after a few days spent in a
Dothan hospital. Wallace says
it was a reaction from peni
cillin, but you know how he
likes to tease. Back in our
r dormitory days there wasn’t
such a thing as penicillin, but
’ some of them called it poison
