The preliminary trial of Bill Culbreath, charged with the mur der of Ashley Bullard, who has been in jail some two weeks, was held here Saturday last. Justice G. J. Stanford of the Mt. Vernon district and Justice W. \V. Elliott of tlife Higgston district presided at the hearing. Many witnesses were sworn and the details of the case gone into quite thoroughly, but the trial resulted in the release of Cul breth. The evidence of reliable parties showed that Cul breat h spent the night on which the kill ing was done at a residence some distance from the scene of the murder. The negro Webster Grimes, who confessed to participating in the crime, his story having caused the arrest of Culbreath, was not put on trial, and it has been decided postpone the matter until superi or court convenes at the adjourn ed term next month. We are requested by Justice Stanford to say that all witnesses summoned to appear at the pre liminary trial of Grimes, which was set for next Saturday, that they need not attend. PUBLIC SCHOOL NOTICE. At a meeting of the Board of Education of Montgomery county, arrangements were made to ope rate the public schools of the county for a term of four months, beginning in January, 1907. Tu ition to be free to all the pupils of the county. All teachers will make application to and be em ployed by the County Board of Education. Dec. 11, 1906. A. B. Hutcheson, C. S. C. Quite a L.rge crowd gathered at the home cf Mr. Perry Willis on last Sunday evening to witness the the marriage of his beautiful daughter, Miss Missouri, to Mr. John Dixon, the ceremony being performed by Rev. W. B. Hilton. The contracting parties both live near Kibbee. Miss Missouri is a young lady quite popular, hand some and highly intelligent and has many friends in this commu nity. Mr. Dixon is a young man of intellect and business ability, honest, thrifty and persevering, and is one of the best farmers in Montgomery count} 7 . We con gratulate them on their choice in life, and hope that their vessel will sail smoothly along the wa ters of peosperity; and peace and fortune, ease and good luck, to gether with showers of blessings and benedictions from Heaven crown them in their pathway through life, with all the beati tudes and multiplicity of goodness follow them through life.
