Success in something I lint in I wry rnro and much to l»o desired, vet strange l" say but f<vv are vvil-, lmg to pay tlit* price for it. This applies to success at farming as! well as success in business or along nnv of (lie other walks of. life. Common Scute. Strange yet true one of flic most uncommon things in tins! life is “common sense.” If men j would exercise more common sense on the farms there would be J-sa to complain and grumble about-. Hut few tilings would vex and annoy—auceess would be on every band. All the men who are considered really great men who know how to use common j sense. It is the grade of sense most usually needed and in fact j the only kind of sense that can be i used in any successful business by j anyone from president to under laker. Whenever common sense l is employed on the farm you al ways find a man be he tenant tir j landlord to whom success is not unknown. K very body able to g* 1 along without a guardian has been endowed with a sutßcienl supply of common sense to sue coed ni this business. The trou ble seems to be is that only a few seem to think ilnit this grade of sense is for use ordinarily ami bend all I heir energies trying to cl.suge the order of nature and bring into use an uncommon grade of sense and wreck, and ruin are following in their wake. tine of the great things the I’nion is endeavoring to do is to get faruu-rs willing to use their common sense. Anyone who de cides ty> do this though need not; g>-i worried if las neighbors be- i. « Twenty years ago the fact was made much of that New York city boasted 100 batiks and irnsi com panies. Today, however the great er cit v lias no fewer than 212 insti-l union of this character. r-—— • ■ • ' como amused at him. Some of thorn don’t know what common sense is when applied to farming, and when they arc brought in contact with it may become | amused and may have to enquire, “What’« to pay?” Sikotlflc farming. So much is being said those jdaysnbout scientific farming the question naturally arises, “What Os scientific farming?” A satis factory answer to this question may be difficult to give some yet we may for the present consider scientific farming to be the em ployment of common sense and common sense methods on the farm. Cultivate friendship. Every member of the Farmers’ . I nion should learn to place a , high estimate on the blessings of j true friendship from a fraternal standpoint. The rights and set-l --t nigs of every brother should by all means be sacredly guarded and ■respected by nil. Cultivate a 1 spirit of genuine friendship that shall ripen into brotherly love and bring the peaceable fruits ot uni ty and haruionv uncorrupted by ; hatred and envy and jealousy and bitterness. Never allow a mo meot to pass when a spirit of helpfulness and sympathy and kindness is not show n. Kducailuu. One <>f the things the Fiiioii stand- for is education. Mark that. et some seem to be slow to realize the importance of edu cating their children. Thev seem to think that education is a tine thing to talk about blit vet do practically notlnog towards edu cating their own children. i It i- stated that Chinese offici als are to be sent 1 1 > Indie to see how the salt trade is handled in ihal country, with the idea of adopting similar regulations for 'China.
