EVANS BROTHERS :kill each othep, Tuesday night of Inst week at the home of J. H. Evans, Winder, Ga.,in Jackson county, two broth er* fought to their death. From the facts obtained it, ap pears that J. 11. and A.C. Kvans had been conducting a mercantile i business together, and that on Tuesday J. 11. bought his broth* er'a interest m the business, and after supper that night A. went to his brother's home to settle tip the affairs connected with thoj transfer of the stock. 'J lie men! became engaged in a controversy,! the nature of which is unknown. Hot words followed, A. C. pulled his pistol and tired three shots at close range, all taking effect in J. J J.’s breast. The wounded man sank to the floor by the side, of Ins fireplace, where rested a hatchet. With the superhuman strength of a mini in the agony of death and in dread of other shots from the brother who had turned to he his foe, he quickly seized Ills hufeuet and with one mighty effort rose to liis foot and struck his brother a ter riflic blow on the head, scattering his assailant’s brains in the pool of Jus own blood on the Moor so recently drawn by the ready pistol of the hot-headed brother. Both men have families and are said to have been highly respected both in social and business circles, and their sail winding lip is surely regretted in Winder and through out Jackson county. The family of the blood-stained home were all absent on the fatal night except the father and possi bly two small children. Conse quently them were no oyo witness es, unless the two children were in the room with their father and undo. THE COMBAT BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG. The best method of light ing evil is to fight it with good. If you want to have your children choose the right, illustrate it to them. If you want them to avoid had hooks place good books within their reach. If you want them to keep away from the grocery or the sa loon at night, make the home so cheerful, make their companions so welcome that they will prefer the home to the saloon or the gro cery. Make the good attractive. Make it cheerful. That is the nature of good, and when evil is cheerful and attractive it, lias stolen the garments of light. “One nail drives another nail out.” Drive only those that are clean and straight and strong. If you would rid vour garden of weeds, cultivate it thoroughly and then plant it with the things that you want. Keep down the weeds for awhile and then the grain, fruit or vegetables will outgrow If your children do not find at j home what they want, they will seek it elsewhere. Klsewlisre they will he misled and deceived. They will take evil for good, not from choice but from ignorance. Teach them to know the diet inet ion. Let them feel it in your own daily life. Illustrate to them bv example the value of industry,of self restraint, of forbearance, of courtesy and kindliness, of unselfishness, of tolerance, of good feeling, of helpfulness. Give them work to do but do not exact too much of them. Idle ness is the source of most evils and of most diseases of the body and mind; but so balance the pleas ures of life with the duties of life that the duties will he a pleasure and the distinction between the two in time will fade altogether away.—Home and Farm.
