®!t? jKmtfootttpn? iMnmtor* VOL. XXIV. One Nuisance Is Prohibited. A lt.fr many yours of 1 1 1» 1 ilra- i f inn, ami likewise many years of agravution, 'lie town council of Ml. Verimu lias .passed ordinances making it unlawful for hogs and gnats to roam on the streets of the town, and surely this move should meet the entire approval of the citizens of the place. Never was a town of its size more cursed by the presence of hogs ,on its streets than Ml. Vernon. ]l is not worth while to again enumerate the evil results of hogs anil goats on the streets —it. is an abominable and inexcusable nui sance, and the move to prohibit it. on the part of the town council deserves the hourly a ppm but ion of every citizen of the place. As will be seen from reading the' ordinance, this rule goes into ef fect. October loth, and every law abiding eit izon should be prepared to obey and support it. I t is understood, from mem-i berm of the governing bond, that j Steps will be take to relieve the place of some ot her object tollable feat ures, among which may be j uienlioned reckless baseball pitch-, ing on the main streets, bicycle; lading on the sidewalks and hois-j trous singiog and lounging aronml j on the court house square. An-; ot her curse and out rage to society, ! . ■ ! wllicll receives but. little or no at tention by those in authority is j t hat of drunkenness on the si rents ! of this plae.e. Wherever liquor! is found, disorderly conduct, may be found also; and this is very often the case on the streets ol this place. II the citizens of the place take no material stand against it., it, is not, likely that j the grand jury will take a hand in the matter, notwithstanding the law against diuukcniiess in: pllhl ic places. Let the citizens co-operate with the council in I lie mat ter of en- i forcing ordinances that condone to" the good"of the place and the general welfare of the citizens. M itch can he done in tic way of improvement along several lines j of civic rule. llawinsville News - Dispatch:— Bishop Seth W ard is said to lie desperately ill in Japan, with lit tie hope of recovery.
