Thursday Morning, APRIL 11, 1912. The hoys’ corn cluhs have! reached us, and it makes little! difference whether the boll wee-1 vil comes or not. Had on Savannah that the next month can’t sport an r,” and that the caldron is being put on f<»r the last oyster stew. Speaking of the “dyed” eggs of last week, someone reminds us that ”d d” egg' will be in order with' ' ' v days. The Dublin Chamber of Com merce makes a move in the right direction in asking for the pas sage of a hill requiring corpora tions selling stock in this state to register with the comptroller general. A lot of swindling schemes would bo cut out. They told us at first that the low price of cotton was the nat ural result of a tremendous crop. Now, they tell us, it is caused by a change in feminine attire, par ticularly to “tube” skirts. It looks like a mean piece of busi ness to lay it on the women. A lot of silly rot has been turned out already during this campaign by a few so-called Democratic newspapers. One of the latest is that Bryan will bolt the party if Underwood is nomi nated. If Bryan had bolted and stayed bolted long years ago the old party might average some thing above thirty cents now. Hon. Oscar Underwood, the great leader of the Democratic house in congress, is not the only Southerner accused of Ix'ing a native of the North. Dr. Craw ford W. Long, the discoverer of ether as an anesthetic, horn in Madison county, Georgia, had a tablet erected to his memory last week in Philadelphia as “a son of Pennsylvania.” We enjoy hundreds of advan tages in South Georgia that it takes millions to make up for in other sections. We have no great extremes of heat or cold, and do not have to spend vast sums on irrigation schemes, and a crop failure here lias never been known. Still, we are not happ\ bees: v • our eves are closed to our u> Montgomery county is far! more deeplj interested in select ing good men to manage its as- j fairs as county commissioners! than in a choice between eandi-t dates for tin ’ r sid ncy. When our people w; , to the neces sity of electii > able business! men to conduct our financial as-! fairs we may si-e some of that prosperity we ought to have ov-« ertaken some fifty years ago. The document given out by Governor Joseph M. Brown in refusing clemency to Jefferson, condemned to hang at Columbus, would make profitable reading for those who are tainted with the recall nostrum in Georgia. He says: "But the constitution of Georgia makes justice, not mercy, the administrative force of government And herein con forms to the commands of Al mighty God. Who founds upon justice the governmental struc ture which He has prescribed fori the nations which obey Him.” i i From the Mouth \ ► of Georgia Press * ► M • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAkA.AAA.AA.AA Dublin Courier-Dispatch:—lf for no other reason than because Oscar Undefwood as floor leader of the house and chairman of the ways and means committee has united the democratic congress men as they have never before k n united, he should he given tlx- nomination for president. Houston Post:—The fact that Woodrow Wilson has any sup port at all is due largely to the fact that all the newspapers sup porting him have not been as silly as the Atlanta Journal. Walton News:-The News is hopeful that the people of Wal ton county will raise more meat this year than in any previous year. With plenty of meat, corn, kid and mutton; with plenty of chickens, eggs, butter and sor ghum the farmer, as has already been said of him, “is king.” No; farmer is in reality a king who does not take advantage of his opportunity to raise a full line of supplies. Covington News:- The Atlanta papers are all furnishing the Re publican party some awful good ammunition for use after the con vention. Party expediency prac tically demands that they cut it out. Macon Telegraph:—lf the opin ion of President Taft expressed by Dr. Harvey Riley in a recent interview be correct, the latter will have small show of adorning the tail of the Democratic presi dential ticket this year. He said Taft was his best friend and that he hoped he would be re-elected. Savannah Press: -The Missis sippi river, not satisfied with be ing the fathers, seems to want to be the father of its country from the way it is taking in new territory. Hawkinsville Dispatch-News:— “Our only objection to Woodrow Wilson is his Bryanistic views,” says the Nashville Herald. That has caused many Democrats to turn away from the New Jersey man, and we believe it will cause his defeat if he is nominated. Darien Gazette: —Now is the time for the big dailies, who are advocates of real reform, to com mence a warfare on annual ses sions of the legislature and so many elections. If they would put their shoulder to the wheel victory would be easy. Valdosta Times:—Those Dem ocratic newspapers who are try ing to use Bryan’s threat of a bolt if Wilson is not nominated, will find out before long that threats like that will prove a! Ixxmierang to them and their ; cause. A large element of Dem ocrats would welcome a holt if it ! 'would get rid of Bryan forever j and a day. Homerville News:—You have been saying for many long years that you wanted to vote fora 1 southern man for president. Are you still in that mood? Then vote for Underwood for he is a typical southern democrat. He is of Alabama, and is the leader of the House of Representatives. PIANO . TUNING. If your Piano is worth anything, it is worth EXPERT tuning. Any other kind will ruin it I have a diploma, and guarantee all work. Write, and I will call. ORGANS REPAIRED. Charles L. Hamilton, • MT. VERNON. GA. THE MONTGOMERY MONITOR—THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 1912. All the Democrats Needed. In conducting the campaign for the nomination of a demo cratic candidate for the presi dency, we do not need to emulate! the example of the republicans.: The campaign in each state should be so conducted that there will be more democrats after the nomination in Baltimore than there are now. If a candidate cannot gain fa vor with democrats without smirching the character or dis- | crediting the integrity of another democratic candidate, then that candidate is intrinsically too weak to receive further consideration. We think Underwood is the ( best man for the presidency so far mentioned by democrats, hut we are unwilling to attempt in his behalf to discredit the char acter or democracy of Wilson, ; Clark, Harmon, or any other | democrotic candidate. Our campign should be such | that all candidates will be able! ] with honor and cordiality to work ( earnestly for the election of who ever the convention at Baltimore may nominate. Our prime purpose should be to promote democratic success, and not the political ambition of! any man. . Certainly the democratic can- J dates should not be placed in a like attitude to that of Taft, La | Follette and Roosevelt. The candidates so far mention- . ed have proven themselves dem- I ocrats, able and honest men, and they should be so treated in the campaign now in progress.— Perry Home Journal. Money to Loan.
