The Board of County Commis sioners has asked for a postpone ment of the May term of Mont gomery superior court, as will be seen by the following correspon dence: Whereas, the next session of the Superior Court of Montgom ery county will convene on the first Monday in May next; And whereas, owing to the ex cessive rains and prolonged cold weather, the agricultural inter ests of the county have been greatly retarded and the farmers can ill afford to spare the time from their farms to attend the court; Therefore, lie it resolved that it is the sense of this court that said term of said superior court Ih* adjourned until such time du ring the year as will be more convenient to the farming class. I have never had a court postponed or adjourn ed to suit my personal conven ience nor have I ever consulted my personal interest in holding courts. I consider it my duty, and it is certainly a pleasure, for me to do those things which will promote the public interest of each county over which I preside. As under the law it will be necessary for me to go over whether the court is adjourned or held, as 1 could not legally ad- Mr. Chalmers Chapman is up from a round with measles. ' (Advertisement) Where the County's Interest is at Stake , Taxpayers Should be Consulted. Consider. To the Voters of Montgomery County: Being a candidate for the important office of Treasurer of your I i informed that it is being currently reported that, if elected, I would show favoritism in the selection of a bank to handle the funds of the county. The circulation of such a report is doubtless intended to do me harm, (where not understood) and I desire to correct the erroneous impressions. If honored with the office, I shall look solely to the interest of the tax payers of my county, and will use only such chartered banks as will pay the highest rate of interest on all monthly balances: Now, I am not a stockholder, nor interested in any bank in the county, and should I become trustee of the public funds, will handle them to the best interests and greatest convenience of the whole people. As shown by the records, county funds have here tofore been deposited with more than one bank, but in no instance drawing interest—and as a matter of fact, under the present in | cumbent’s plan, the largest part of the county’s funds have been deposited with the Montgomery County Bank, at Ailey, a private 'institution, which is not operated under a charter from the State, !as I am informed, and as the tax digest shows capitalized at only $2,000. In conclusion, I beg to say that if elected I shall use every effort to administer the affairs of the office in the most economical and satisfactory manner possible. In the past the convenience of the public has not been consulted, nor the law observed. Section No. 575 of the Code of Georgia, referring to the duties of County Treasurer, reads as follows: “He must keep his office at the County Site, or at some place within one mile of the court house.” This has not been done by the present incumbent, nor have I heard, that in the event of his re-election, he would in the future meet the ex press requirements. I promise that, if elected, the law will be com plied with, and the office of Treasurer open at all times for the transaction of the business of the county, keeping the books open at all times for the inspection of the tax payers.
