Mount Vernon, Ga.. Thursday Morning, Oct. 31, 1912.
A strong pull all together next
Tuesday will put Wilson in.
.
After electing Wilson and
Marshall, the next lx*st thing we
can do will be to sow a big crop
of oats.
Do not let anything keep you
away from the polls next Tues
day. Put in a solid vote for Wil
son and tariff revision.
Here’s hoping that the Greeks
will knock the stuffing out of
Turkey, and that Woodrow Wil
son will wallop the wool socks
off Teddy and Taft.
You might feel lonesome after
next Tuesday if you did not help j
your neighbors to put up a land
slide for Wilson and the princi
ples of pure and honest govern
ment.
Plant more pecans and less
cotton. If you can make a living
planting cotton you may secure
a competency for old age by
having pecan trees growing to
maturity on the same land.
Hanks county has not only a
flourishing boys’ corn club but a
"Girls’ Home Life Club” besides.
It is safe to predict that the boys ;
will not be forced to go outside !
of their own county lines to find
smart and lovely wives.
The time for argument is over.
If you are a Domocrat you will
vote for Wilson and Marshall on
Tuesday next. If you are a scal
awag you will vote as you have
before, against your own inter
ests and against your own people.
There is no such thing as pleas
ing all the people all the time.
Down in Crisp county a farmer
named Rogers made potatoes so
large that Cordele people refused
to Duy them on account of the
extra labor required to cut them
down to baking size.
There is no good reason why
boys’ live stock clubs should not 1
boost stock-raising in Georgia *
just as they are making a revo- 1
lution in farming. We would be :
exceedingly proud for the boys *
of this county to be the first to '
organize a fine stock club.

i
The possibilities of this country
are wonderful. A member of i
the Montgomery county boys’ i
corn club may yet be president of ( <
these United States. Abraham 1
Lincoln, who was a hoosier rail
splitter, had no such opportuni- j
ties as the boys of this day and (
time.
Cities have their troubles and
perplexities as well as the small
towns. The people of Savannah
ain’t sleep these mornings lx- 1
cause of the persistent crowing ;
of roosters, and the turkey trot
is grating on the nerves of the j
few morally disposed people of
Atlanta.
Those California and Oregon ;
tales about the fortunes made
out there in fruits off ten-acre
patches make interesting read
ing; but the figures given out by
enthusiastic.pecan growers show
that a few acres in nuts in South
Georgia will easily lay those
Western anecdotes in the shade, j
The most wonderful accom
plishment in modern scientific
invention is seen in the strides
of wireless telcpraph.v. A plant
put in operation at Arlington.
Va., this week by the government
wiil send messages through the j
trackless air 3,000 miles. To be
able to hold converse with the
uttermost parts of the earth is a
matter of a very short time. i
