Vernon this week. Lyons Progress. Mr. John D. Stanford was with relatives and friends here on Tuesday. Mr. J. 11. Conner a prominent farmer of Toombs county, resid ling south of Uvalda, was here last, week. Mr. (’. I). Adams, former treasurer of Montgomery county, was here attending to business ; yesterday. Mt. Vernon’s next big func tion will be tlx* address of Grand Master Coleman and the institu tion of a lodge of Odd Fellbws on Thursday afternoon and night of next week. Items Os Interest at Alamo. Editor Monitor: Alamo is on a boom now. A new court house will soon he erected, a SIO,OOO school building, a new parsonage for the Methodist church. The Freewill Baptists are building a new church, the Methodists have a new Epworth League with sev eral members: and the Missiona r\ Baptists will organize a new '•t.iirch on Wednesday after the third Sunday, with a large mem bership. Rev. C. E. Kight may run a protracted for one week or more, lie will preach here next Sunday morning at 11:00 and in the evening at 7:00. It is veiy probable that Rev, J. I). Rabun of Mt. Vernon and Rev. J. I). Larkin of Mcßae will assist in the organization of the church and assist in the meeting, to which all Baptists are invited. . Vernon, Ga., and at Bell’s Ferry, near Charlotte. Ga., by the County of Montgomery, an* now pub lic highways to be operated by the two adjoining counties, and. Wherefore, the adjoining county of Wheeler re fuses to pay her pro rata share of the expense of operating said ferries, it is. therefore. Ordered ami adjudged by this court that said ferries be and they are hereby discontinued. It is further considered, ordered and adjudged by this body that said ferry boats, cables, ropes and all apparatus connected therewith for the op eration of said ferry Ixwts. heretofore operated : ami being the properly of this.
