PROSPEROUS SOUTH
GEORGIA DEVELOPMENT
Good Crops and Evidences
Os Great Activity
On All Sides.
As a result of the large cotton
crop grown in that section this
year and the ' satisfactory prices
obtained, South Georgia is now
in normal condition again. This
is another w r ay of saying that
South Georgia is prospering and
progressive.
The development of that great
section of Georgia is one of the
most interesting chapters in the
industrial history of the South.
What is >eally going on in the
growing cities and towns, and in
the rapidly-developing agricul
tural districts of that section is
appreciated to the full extent
only by those who go and see the
country with their own eyes. A
few days ago one of the publish
ers of The Industrial Index had
occasion to make a rather ex
tended trip through South Geor
gia, taking in the entire southern
portion of the state, and he was
impressed as never before with
the evidences of progress and
development in that section.
South Georgia is full of new
spick-and-span towns and cities,
flush with the strength, eager
ness and enthusiasm of youth, and
it is both refreshing and inspiring
to visit them.
The cotton crop in the south
ern portion of the state is almost
uniformly good, the crop yield is
the largest recorded, and the hay
crop is decidedly the greatest
ever grown. Traveling through
that section one hears many
comments on both the quantity
and quality of the hay, showing
that the production has been un
usual.—lndustrial Index.

Twenty-five Bales
To The Plow.
Col. IT. Augustus Harris, a
; former Americus grocer, but for
| several years now a prosperous
! and successful farmer, came up
yesterday from his estate in Lee
with a flattering report of crop
conditions in his locality. In
fact, Col. Harris has made more
cotton on his fine farm this year
than he can possibly gather and
market, for lack of labor. He
operates ten plows upon his
farm, and, in addition to corn,
hay and ot her crops he has made
I a splendid crop of 250 hales of
j cotton or 25. hales to the plow, al
! though he will not gather more
than 80 per cent, of it. Already
he has picked and sold 102 bales
and hopes to pick out another
hundred, perhaps, before Christ
mas. The balance of the crop,
he fears, will be left in the fields
because of his inability to pick it.

Dear Ancestors.
Two close-fisted Missouri
brothers sued a neighbor for $375
owing on a land deal, says the
Saturday Evening Post. They
engaged the best lawyer in their
county seat. The lawyer won
the case. The brothers called to
see about his fee. One stayed
outside and the other went in.
“How much is it?” he asked.
“Well,” said the lawyer, “I
won’t be hard on you. I have
known both you boys since you
were children and I knew your
pop. I guess S3OO will be about
right.” The inquiting brother
went out dazed.
“Lordy, George,” he said to
the one outside, “I’m durn glad
he didn’t know grandpa, too.”
