Burglars Find Editor’s House Empty. A western newspaper man tells of a friend who edited, with more or less success, a paper in an lowa town. That he was somewhat discouraged by the lack of interest shown in his journal was evidenced by this notice which one afternoon ap peared on the editorial page: “Burglars entered our house last night. To the everlasting shame of the community, for whose welfare we have labored, be it said, they got nothing.” Several Oil Tanks Fired by Lightning. Ardmore, Okla., Aug. 28. Lightning in the oil fields near here today ignited several tanks containing, it is said, several hun dred thousand barrels of oil. The flames set fire to a large gas well in the same district. The burning oil is scattered over a distance of 3 miles. The flames, it is feared, will destroy a quantity of oil stored in earthen receptacles and also heavily dam age the machinery plants and other property. Seaboard To Continue Night Trains. Americus, Ga., Aug, 29. —The Seaboard Air Line Railway this afternoon withdrew from the Railroad Commission the petition recently filed and argued yester day requesting permission to an nul the night passenger and mail trains on this division, substitut ing therefor suburban trains out of Savannah and Montgomery. Put in a Day on Roads. Residents of ninety Missouri counties spent Tuesday improv ing the highways, and w'hen they were through it was esti mated that Missouri roads had been improved to the extent of $1,000,000 by the 150,000 volun teers. Twelve hundred men, includ ing many state officers and em ployes, worked the roads near the state capital, Governor Major di recting the twenty-five picked convicts from the penitentiary. “We will do $2,000,000 worth of work in the two good road days,” said Governor Major after receiving reports from over the state. Too Good to Lose. As the summer sun filtered through the lace curtains, the boarding house sitting room look ed almost cozy and attractive. The brightness and comfort thawed the heart of the oldest lodger. In an expansive moment he turned towards the landlady, who was his only companion in the! room and, clasping her hands fondly, murmured: “Will you be my wife?” The woman did not start nor blush. No maidenly coyness shone from her clear, cold eyes. 1 “No, sir,” she replied, with, calm deliberation. “I’m sorry, 1 but I cannot marry you. You’ve been here four years and are! much too good a boarder to be put on the free list.” Citation. Georgia— Montgomery County. To all whow it may concern : Notice is hereby given that J» O.
