Calhoun and chil dren are visiting relatives in Pembroke. Mr. Carl C. McAllister For County Commissioner. Elsewhere in this issue will be found the announcement by his friends of Mr. Carl C. McAllister for the position of Commissioner of Roads and Revenues for the Road District composed of Long pond, Higgston, Kibbee and Tiger. Air. McAllister needs no introduction to the voters of these districts. He is well known as one of the most successful farm ers in this section of Georgia. The cotton will Lie held for an indefinite period. THE MONTGOMERY MONITOR-THURSDAY, SEPT. 24 1914 Burning Roof Falls Upon Nashville Man. Nashville, Ga., Sept. 22. When he rushed into the burning dwelling of P. A. Lasseter to try to save a piano in the house, the burning roof fell in on R. L. Ferguson here this morning and Mr. Ferguson was burned to death. The body was badly charred. Several other men, who were on the same mission, barely es caped from the building in time. The fire occurred about 3 o’clock this morning. Mr. Ferguson was about 40 I years old and is survived by a family. He was engaged in the i mercantile business. A falling chimney caused the roof to collapse before it was ex pected. 70 Bushels of Corn on Acre; 24c Bushel Cost. Jesup, Sept. 23. —H. R. Mc- Gauley, of Odum, has finished gathering his farm demonstration acre this year and reports that he gathered 70 1-4 bushels of corn at a cost of 24 cents per bushel. This includes $5 rent on the acre, which is at the lowest cost that a btfshel of corn has ever been reported raised in this county. Besides the large amount lof corn he gathered from the acre, he also got several hundred pounds of fodder. He has also an acre in cotton for demonstra tion purposes and will get 1,500 pounds of sea island cotton in the seed off of it, Atlanta Man Ends Life By Drinking Poison. Atlanta, Sept. 22. —Fulton r Colville, Jr., 28 years old promi nent in society here, committed suicide at his apartments in this city today by drinking poison. Colville came here from Louis ville, Ky., several years ago and was employed by an insurance company. He left a note asking that his mother in Louisville and - his uncle, Fulton Colville, Sr., in New York, be notified of his death, No reason for his action ,! is known. !| No Court in Jeff Dayis Until Next February. ■ Haxlehurst, Ga., September 21. Jeff Davis county superior i court convened this morning with Judge C. B. Conyers presiding. , ] On account of the stringency of . i money caused by the European war and the farmers being busy in their crops, Judge Conyers continued the entire fall term of 1 court. There will not be held any superior court in this county, . therefore, until the February term, 1915. Large petitions were ! presented asking that no court I be held at this time. i I Farm for Sale.
