Thursday Morning, Feb. 18, 1915. With a few more days of sun shine, Georgia is liable to have its face terribly scratched. A mass meeting held ut Gallup, N. M., last week ordered all ne otoes to leave the town. Put them in a gallop, so to speak. liradstreet's Agency says we r .• going to reduce our cotton acreage cot. id> rably, and Brad ht.reet’s itici all.\ keeps a keen eye on everything. Zapata’s forces have destroyed the waterworks in Mexico City, but they can drink pulque and continue their bushwhacking un til watermelon time. The fellow who sold his cotton seed for sl4 per ton, now that they are bringing over S3O, ought to get so thoroughly disgusted with the cotton business as to plant corn instead. After all, we are much like a drove of sheep. When oneshoep jumps a log the balance of the (lock want t<> follow him. Every body in Georgia is singing the praises of Moultrie’s packing house. ll you an not acquainted with Miss Nancq Hall you surely an on qwaking terms with Mr. Buck Yam The; are both destined to cut quite a figure in this little di vei attention game now on the hoards. The record was broken last v\erk at Newport News, Va., when eight vessels cleared with l-.otto hor.es for England and Franco. At this rate the auto mobile manufacturers have noth ing on horse raisers. J. S. Shingler of Turner coun ty cured Ma.OOO pounds of meat this winter. He spent a few dol lars for a brick and cement re frigerator, w hich w as far less ex -1 ensive than hauling spoiled meat out into the woods. Hog cholera has already set in its spring ravages. Good time for our farmers to make a test of the serum cure. It is stated by expert authority that 7,000,000 lags w ere lost by cholera in 1913. I tetter to use the serum before the hog is too far gone. Hon. John T. Hoifeuillet, who will go t* London in a few days to till the appointment made as chief dork in the embassy to Ambassador Page, w ill come ov er in the good old summer time to help run the Georgia legisla t.:e. \\ were just thinking that with Hoifeuillet and Jot' Hill Hall both out the thing couldn’t be run at all. With all ti.e cold weather we; have had this winter, there are I P epic in this section who lost I irt of the meat they went to the I expense of fattening. An ice box. ! that anyone could make, and a| i -w cents worth of ice would j have saved them many dollars. I 1 t some of them will do the: sime stunt of hauling their! r eat out into the woods again! next winter. Montgomery county young! n an, sct'iouxy, if you only know v hat w ould make for your fi-; nuncial p uv hereafter you would i s;;ure enough land for a small! f irm at least. The average ad vine. in farm lands in this sec-; t dcrii g the past twenty years h-*s not boon less than ten per| cent, per annul*. The indepen dent man hereafter will not be the ]*vilitician nor the tradesman, ! but the m m with his own home and the solid chances of making i his living by honest work and in-! telligont farming. 1 ► Gleanings From \ E Wisdom’s Field. \ • AJ AA Savannah Press: —Belvidere, N. J., is going to trying to feed its prisoners for fifteen cents a day. Evidently wishes to dis courage people from going to jail. Dublin Courier-Herald: Wouldn’t it be a good idea for the Commissioners of Laurens county to advertise for bids on the foodstuffs and supplies they have to buy for the use of the county and let the contract to Laurens county farmers or deal ers? This plan is suggested by President Haden of the Georgia State Chamber of Commerce. Monroe Advertiser: —’Tis said there are 92,000,000 microbes on every paper dollar. But they can’t hang on to the smooth sides of a much worn nickle, we’ru j safe. Atlanta Georgian: Georgia has nothing much on Nevada in the matter of divorce laws. All one has do in either state is to ask for the divorce wanted, and then sit around and wait awhile i —in Nevada, six months; in ■ Georgia, twelve. Macon News:- The old fash * ioned man who used to burn the midnight oil over his accounts now has a son who stays up with the early morning electric lights to burn the old man’s money. Hartwell Sun:—A man living in the state of Washington, sold his wheat crop for something over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars the other day! Wanted Some wheat to sow, at once. Pembroke Enterprise: We ad vise the people of Bryan county to raise hogs, and raise good ones. Start with any breed you fancy, but get good stock, and get a fly ing start. Read farm papers, take an interest in your pigs, and above all, give the boy a i pig and let him join a “pig club.” * Then he will able to teach you to feed properly if you don’t al ready know how. 1 Lyons Progress:—Arizona is having a hard time of it with a session of the legislature and an epidemic of smallpox on its hands at the same time. It is hard to tell which of the two is the worst. Darien Gazette: —Every once in a while we like to say a good word about the corn boys because they deserve all the praise that can be bestowed upon them. And besides, they should be encour aged. Atlanta Journal:—ln Germany patrons of restaurants must bring their bread with them, which in itself is a significant war bulle * tin. Valdosta Times:—Savannah ba kers are figuring on raising their prices for bread to six cents a loaf. That may cause some folks | to do what they ought to do any- i way use corn bread, Georgia ground and Georgia made. Albany Herald: —One o f the good results certain to grow out jof the changed agricultural con-; ditions in the South, brought about by the war in Europe, will he a greatly increased acreage in oats. It is estimated by those who have made inquiry that the oat acreage will be increased fully 100 per cent over 1914. Butts County Progress:—The Progress insists that this county should have a flour mill. The sooner it is built the better. This I section must begin to raise its 1 wheat and make its own flour.
