Mr. W. A. Peterson and family
returned Friday evening from a
trip to Cairo, making the run by
auto in one day.
Mr. J. E. Ladson, of the Lad
son Lumber Co., Moultrie, was
here last, week visiting his fa
ther, Mr. I. L. Ladson, north of
Ml. Vernon. Mr. Ladson is also
extensively engaged in farming,
running this year ten plows.
Cols. L. C. Underwood and M.
H. Calhoun left Tuesday night
for Hawkinsville, where they at
tended the annual meeting of the
Oconee Bar Association, held
there yesterday.

left yesterday for Atlanta, after
a pleasant visit to her uncles here

Sheriff Hester went down to
Uvalda Monday morning and
brought to jail a negro said to be
implicated in the shooting of the
marshal there Sunday night.
Mrs. J. E. Hunt and children
have returned from a visit with
relatives at Sandersville. Dr.
Hunt went up to return with
them.
Whole Lake of Wine
Is Destroyed by Fire.
Fresno, Cal., June 2(5. Nearly
1,000,000 gallons of wine was
destroyed in a fire which today
caused a loss of $600,000 in the
Barton Vinyard Company’s build
ing.
The blazing wine spread over
the vineyards in a burning lake,
and, fanned with a brisk wind,
the fire swept dangerously near
the Government warehouse con
taining a large quantity of bran
dy. Several cottages were de
stroyed.
One Killed, 5 Hurt as
Train Hits a Wagon.
Durham, N. C., June 29.
When Southern Railway train
No. 119, bound for Keysville,
Va., was about 100 yards from
the passenger station in Oxford,
I Granville County, it struck a wa
gon occupied by T. W. Elliott, a
' prominent farmer, his wife, three
, boys and one girl. The girl, 4
j years old, was killed outright,
j Two of the boys were brought to
Durham in a serious condition.
Mr. and Mrs. Elliott are serious
ly injured and the other boy is
thought to be in a dying condi-
I tion.

Chapel Sunday. Among them

urday last at the home of Mr. J,
P. Canady.
We regret to learn of the death
of Mrs. John Reynolds. Mrs.
Canady and Mrs. Corbin spent
Sunday at the home of Mr. Rey
nolds.
The Minnehaha Springs boys
played the Orianria boys a match
grame of ball Saturday, the score
being in favor of Orianna.
Miss Nannie Moore visited the
home of Mr. N. E. Deriso Sun
day afternoon.
Mr. J. M. Moore and Curtis
Canady visited Hall’s Chapel on
Sunday.
The party at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Owen Spivey Saturday
night was enjoyed by the young

General Assembly of the State of
Georgia an Act will be introduced
to alter, change and abolish the
present charter of the City of
Mount Vernon, in the county of
Montgomery; and to create anew
charter for said City of Mount
Vernon, in the county of Mont
gomery, whereby the powers,
duties and authority of said mu
nicipal corporation will be ex
tended and enlarged.
