It belongs to the sorghum family and crosses readily with other forms. d. It is - m annual and must be grown from tin* seed each year. I. This plant resembles Johnson grass in appearance, but does not possess the the underground root stalks which make the latter a pest. ). The crop should be planted in the spring after the soil warms up well. Between April L’> and May lf> gave the best results at this station. 6 Largest yields were obtained where the crop was planted in 42-inch rows and cultivated. 7. When seeded in rows, two or three pounds of seed should be planted per acre. S. Sudan gauss is a hay plant and will eventually he grown for this purpose. Growing for seed) is the more profitable at present. 9. Seed should bo purchased only from reliable parties or where Johnson grass is not found i growing. 10. Grasshoppers and chinch bugs are the worst insect ene mies attacking this crop. Ord of Appreciation.
