Are skilled incendiaries start ing the alarming number of fires jin grain elevators in town and I country which have occurred dur ing the recent past? Is it pos-„ sible that secret enemies of the United States may set fire to standing grain at harvest lime, or to dry grain in the stack be fore it is threshed? The possi bility of hog cholera being dis seminated from enemy sources was the subject, of a previous ed itorial. That danger may prop erly reach its crisis some time in June, perhaps about the middle of the month. Then spring lit ters will be of fair size and the maximum of old corn will have been fed, so that the disease would accomplish its worst de- Istruction then. Should there be no particular trouble with cholera during June, look out for it again in September, when hogs that have been fed all summer on pasture and forage crops will be i turned into the feed lots to fat- I ten for fall and winter markets. Foot and mouth disease also j should be looked out for sharply (at this season, as it progresses so rapidly in warm weather. Without being at all hysterical or panic-stricken, intelligent far | mers realize that our enemy which employs submarines for ruthless destruction may find spies or ad hermits capable of si lently and secretly cojnmitting just such acts of those hereby warned against. It is conceivable that right here in our own peace ■ fill community such things may happen, so it may be just as well !to keep the old shotgun loaded i for possible home necessities.
