A Claxton barber was carried home under the influence of “tiger liquor” and died soon af terward, still there are some peo ple who are willing to violate the law, spend good money and lots of time in order to find this means of “taking a chance with death.”—Marietta Journal. The filling out of an income tax report may lower a man’s esti mate of his mathematical ability and may also make manifest that in financial matters he is not as frank with the government as he is with his friends. —Forsyth Ad vertiser. For the boys who rendered service in the recent war con gress ought to relieve them of paying back taxes before voting. Butler Herald. The best editorial writers are not always those who use the most flowery language, but those who know what to write about and how to write it in a manner that will be read, but that is as far as it goes; it never makes people do things. The plainest language one can use is the most readily understood and usually has a bearing on the minds of those who read it. —Swainsboro Forest-Blade. Many people have the idea that the eighteenth amendment to the constitution does not pre vent their making liquor in their homes for their own -private use. But they had best disabuse their minds at once of any such fond j ideas. No person is allowed to distill liquor in their own home either for himself or for any other person. It is a case of hands off com pletely ami the penalty for non compliance is drastic.—Eastman Times-Journal. The peace treaty will have to be settled by the people at the polls and we feel satisfied that the verdict of the people will be for the treaty and the League of Nations. All hope of having the treaty ratified in the Senate van ished when the Republicans and a few rag tag Democrat refused to accept any modifications to the reservations and the friends of the treaty refused to let it be ! ratified carrying these reserva tions. Since it is to go to the people, we must all be satisfied with the final decision. Spring field Herald. Staves Wanted. White Oak Flat Sawn or Split Staves. Brunswick. Ga. i Salvation Army is Held in High Regard. Atlanta, Ga., March 17. —Speak- ing from personal knowledge of the work of the Salvation Army overseas General John J. Pershing has written a letter to Comman der Evangeline C. Boooth com mending the service rendered the American soldiers by this organization and indorsing the second home service fund appeal scheduled for May 10 to 20. General Pershing is intimately acquainted with the work done by the Salvation Army abroad and his letter is written, he says, so the country generally may be more fully informed of the splen did services performed by the representatives of this organiza tion during the war. His letter to Miss Booth follows: “It has been brought to my attention that the Salvation Army will shortly conduct a campaign for the extension and endowment of the organization. That the country may be more fully in formed of something of the splendid services performed by the representatives of the Salva tion Army abroad during the war, please permit me to add a word of aporeciation in addition to that already accorded by the men of the American Expedition ary Forces. "Early in 1917 you had a num ber of huts operating in the train ing area of the First Division, under a group of devoted men and women who laid the founda tion for the affectionate regard in which the workers of your organization have always been held by the American soldiers. Ail during the war the work of the Salvation Army was carried on'.in the theaters of training and operation, rendering invaluable service in ministering to the wel fare and comfort of the soldiers. Your organization and its indi vidual men and women workers, by the excellence of their work and their self-sacrifice, endeared the Salvation Army to all those divisions to which they were at tached and spread its good name to every part of the American Expeditionary Forces. “My best wishes go with you for its future success and prog ress.” _ Notice to Public.
