Hicks entertained the little folks with a birthday party in honor of her little daughter, Vernon, who cel ebrated her sixth anniversary. Those present were: Little | Misses Sara Frances Calhoun, Pauline Hughes, Carolyn Currie, Mildred Hunt, Josephine Ander | son, Lucile Johnson,* Martha Wright. Mary Bess Cummings, Helen Smith, Ella Bess Morrison, and Vernon Hicks. Masters Paul Coursev, Jake Grimsley, Waiter Dickson. Billie Myers, Clay Wilt, Cecil Rackley, Victor Poore, James Hester and Charlie Burch. ! After many games the little guests were ushered in the din ing room where delicious cake and punch were served. The 'dining room was beautifully decorated in autumn colors, soft-' ly lighted with candles. With the little folks so happy, made a scene that will be long remem j bered by those present. Big Grain Elevator in Lee and Sumter. Americus, Ga. —A grain eleva- , tor with a capacity of 3,000 bush els, is being erected by J. W. McDonald, at Wells’ Mill, on the! Sumter-Lee county line, south of Americus. The elevator will be completed and ready for opera tion within thirty days, it is sta ted. Modern machinery includ ing a mechanical corn shucker and sheller are already upon the ground and will be installed this week. McDonald plans to use the ele vator exclusively for corn, of which there is a large quantity upon the farms in this section. Corn will be handled for farmers on commission basis, first being prepared for market and then stored. Co-operative carload ship ments are included in the method of marketing. Will Not Adjourn Before Thanksgiving. Washington, Nov. 16. —Repub- lican leaders in the House gave up ' hope today of adjourning the present session of Congress be fore Thanksgiving. Representa tive Mondell, Republican leader, 1 said a recess would be taken on the latter part of the week. The current session, he added, proba bly will run close to opening of the regular session, December 5. House Republicans are deter- j mined to have an agreement i reached between the House and Senate on the tax bill and to pass the Sheppard-Towner maternity hil! and a measure to create 23' additional Federal district judges before adjournment.
