No Market for Big Potatoes. Atlanta, Ga., Nov, 21, 1921. Large sweet potatoes have no j market value to speak of, accord- \ ing to statements made here to-! I day by potato growers. When I j large potatoes are mixed with medium sized potatoes, instead of adding to the commercial val ue of the potatoes they are a de triment, it is stated—making it difficult to sell those of market- 1 able grade and quantity. It is: pointed out that they are not on ly lacking in value themselves; but lessen the value of the medi um sized potatoes which have a place on the markets. Market men say there is a market for sweet potatoes not i ■ over 3 1-2 inches in diameter and hand ten inches in length. Any I potato larger than this, it is stat ' ed, should not be placed in the j same package or car with market i able sw r eet potatoes—the specifi cations for which are the great- 1 i est dimensions, as shown, and j the smallest dimensions 1 3-4 in- 1 j ches in diameter and 4 inches long. In view of the present effort [ being made by many agencies to ‘ introduce the Georgia sweet pota } toes into the markets of the f North and East, it is advisable, | state experts declare, forgrowers ■ j to recognize the limitations as to | ) sizes. Fair associations giving i f prizes for the highest quality and f best graded products will drive [ home this lesson, experts show, ' | while fairs giving prizes for.the ( largest potatoes will discourage production of those of the most j I value.
