Cairo’s Ball Team furnished a pretty example Tuesday of doing the thing that couldn’t be done A little bird'whispers that after awhile all tlipse ugly awnings along Broad street are going to give way to something neat and nice. \\c hope said little bird is not mistaken Have you noticed the improve ments going on in a number of our store fronts? Progress of this kind is what keeps a town wide awake and on the map. We are glad to report that Cairo is to have the Thursday half holi day. The Democrats| will nominate Wilson at St. Louis and the coun try will elect him to the presidency next N ovember. There may Ire u better program than electing Wil son on a platform of Americanism Peace, Prosperity and Prepared, ness, but no one has yet mentioned it, The European war drags its slow and terrible length along, and yet there are those who would criticise the powers that bo at Washington for doing everything honorable to keep our men out of the fearful conflict. Why not urge our city fathers to take steps to create a street com mission whose business it shall be to look after the permanent welfare of our streets. Some of our streets will some day have to be widened. With a little cooperation from the citizens, the right kind of a com mission could arrange for these to be widened much more easily now than if the matter is delayed a few more years. ' County Commissioners’ Proceed ings crowded out our editorial stuff this week. We will count on our readers to be patient. We feel that our merchants and business men arc to be commended for their action in deciding to close for a half holiday on Thursdays. You are only one it is true but you are one. - What Started The Fight O’Honlihan called McGinnis liar and was knocked down by McGinnis with a monkey wrench; then Moriarity broke an ax handle over the head of McGinnis and was in turn walloped over the coco with a coupling pin in the hands of O’Keefe, who at the same time kicked McDuffie in the short ribs. Murphy then lauded on O’Keefe with a spike maul and was himself batted in the snoot by Kelly with a shillaleh. Then the FIGHT Started—and Wc LEFT. Sheriff’s Sale Georgia, Grady County.'
