Poulk and his Sunday School class returned Friday after noon from a two days outing at Blue Spring, on the Ochlocknee river. The trip was given by Hr. Poulk, in honor of his.class and the following young gentlemen com posed the party. Messrs. Fred Walsh, George Forrester, Robert Dyson, James Mauldin, Euland McCrory, Lannis Poulk and Ben Moore. Messrs M. M. Poulk and Horace Ricks, al !o accompanied them.' All report having a splendid time and fully appreciating the kindness of Mr. Poulk. We heard something about an encounter With hornets, but cannot give the de tails as Wo have not had a chance yet to interview, “Hornet Joe." The rain Wednesday night came at an opportune time and we think it was fully appreciated, ( especially by the farmers. Wc arc glad to report that Mr. M. D. Clower, who has been quite sick is much better, and we trust will soon be entirely well again. Mack is at the home of his broth er here, Dr. Eugene Clower and his many friends will be glad to learn of his improvement in health. Mr. Henry Cloud from bn lower Spring Creek in Decatur County is on a visit to relatives iu Grady epupty. Mr. Cloud is a brother of Mrs. W. B. Jones of near town, This is his first visit to Cairo. Mr. Cloud is an old confederate soilder having been with Stonewall Jack son's men when this great soldier was slain. Mr. Cloud will spend some days with Mr. W. B. Jones and with Mr. P. A. We have a good ball team but the boys need practice. Mr. E. R. Pringle made a busi ness trip to Thomasville Monday. Mr. .1. L. Poulk and wife, and Mr. J. W. Clifford returned from a two wcoks outing at Spring Crock last Saturday afternoon. They re port having had a good time and plenty of fish. Mr. L. B. Powell and family re turned Friday from a few days out ing at Newport. Mr. K. P. Wight and family, Mrs. R. L. Vanlandingham and Mrs. Malcolm Bennett, of Camilla returned from a pleasure trip to Spring Creek, last Friday. • We hotieecl in a recent issue of the Thomasville Times Enterprise that they have over there an ag gregation of the best all around marble players in the country. Wc arc not very strong on marbles but heavy on checkers. The mem bers of our checker club arc “Old Timers” and hard to beat and they do not allow themselves to get rusty through lack of practice. Mrs. J. B. Wight is in Atlanta undergoing medical treatment, at the Davis-Fischer Sanitorium. Mr. Wight went up this week to be with her and will remain in Atlan ta for some days. Mr. Oscar Boyett of Spring Hill section was in Cairo one day this week. Bear in mind that Cairo is to have a Fourth of July celebration this year. Dr. R. M. Walsh and Mr. E. H, McCall and baby left Wednesday afternoon for their home in Metcalfe, after a pleasant visit to Mrs. McCalls sister Mrs. Carl Poulk. Mrs. E. H. Stringer and little boy, left Wednesday afternoon for Thomasville, to visit her sister, Mr, J, R, Stringer. Mrs. M. J, Swift, of Metcalfe, is visiting her daughter Mrs. Carl Poulk. - The Brumly Creek railroad bridge caught fire Wednesday after noon supposedly from sparks or coals from a passing train. The afternoon passenger train stopped about ten minutes to put out the fire. It was fortunate that the fire had not gained much headway as the air brakes did not seem to work properly and the train passed over the place that was burning before it could bo stopped. Messrs Tom Wight and GuS Bell, were in Calvary Sunday. Mrs. J. M. Herring and son have returned home, after a few weeks visit in Alabama. Messrs John Strickland, C. R Oates and Frank Strickland, motor ed up to Reno Sunday p. m. Miss Mattie Gainey spent the Week with her sister Mr. G Herring. Rev. Christopher filled his regu lar appointment Sunday and Sun day night. Picnic at Copeland Park The game of base ball between Cairo and Camilla Tuesday after noon was close and exciting, Cairo winning the. game in the ending of the ninth inning. When Cairo went to the bat in the ninth inning the score stood 2 to 0 in favor of Camilla. But by good playing and lucky hits Cairo won out by scoring three runs. Mr. Simkins Brown a new man on the bpll team made a safe hit at a critical time, tieing the score and (he boys rallied and won. . Miss Ethel Parrish who has been teaching in the schools of Barnes- ville is at home for the holidays. Mr. Frank Miller one of the county’s best farmers was looking after business matters in Cairo Wednesday. A merry Crowd of young folks cujoycd a picnic at Copeland Park last Friday. The day was pleas antly spent in bathing, kodaking and many other amusements.
