March 28: A Liberty County deputy was hon ored for helping pull a trapped person from a burning car in November 2017. Bailey Kitchings was among several sheriff’s de partment officers honored for life-saving and heroic deeds by Sheriff Steve Sikes and Chief Deputy Jon Long. March 31: The Liber ty County Sheriff’s Office deputy at the center of a grandmother’s complaint returned to duty. The depu ty was placed on leave when the woman complained he allegedly handcuffed her grandson at school March 23 during a career day. April 4: A Bradwell In stitute STAR teacher placed on administrative leave re turned to work after spring break. BI literature teach er Marilyn Hampton was reportedly asked to resign by Liberty County School System Superintendent Dr. Franklin Perry the week of March 19. April 7: The remains of three people were found in a Gause Street home de stroyed by fire. Firefight ers found that the fire had heavily damaged the old wooden home and flames were seen coming from the structure. Hinesville Fire Department Public In formation Officer Robert Kitchings said it was diffi cult to fight the blaze due to the home’s age. Units from HFD, Walthourville Fire Department and Liberty County Fire Department Station 15, as well as officers from the Hinesville Police Department, responded to the call. April 11: The Hinesville Fire Department confirmed the identities of three peo ple found in a Gause Street home destroyed in an April 5 fire. The victims were Rosa Pearl Strickland, 82, Carl Edward Strickland, 68, and Annie Lorene Grigs by, 62, according to HFD Public Information Officer Capt. Robert Kitchings. No foul play was suspected, ac cording to Kitchings. April 14: A homicide sus pect in Walthourville was “apprehended without inci dent,” according to Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes. Liberty County authorities sought Jason Allen Glass, 41, in connection with the murder of one woman and aggravated assault of anoth er. Officers with Walthour ville Police Department and Liberty County Sheriff’s Office had responded to a domestic disturbance call at a Bass Road home, where they found one woman dead and another injured. The dead woman, Jean Coral, 67, was reportedly Glass’ mother-in-law. His ex-wife, Toni Schwacha, 46, was injured in the domestic disturbance. The Liberty County Board of Education vot ed against a forensic audit. Board members Verdell Jones, Carol Guyett, Mar cia Anderson, Carolyn Smith-Carter, Dr. Yvette Keel and board chairwom an Lily Baker voted against the audit. Marcus Scott IV voted for the measure. Scott had requested an audit fol lowing the firing of former LCSS chief financial officer Roger Reese in 2017. April 18: Rural hospitals, like Liberty Regional Medi cal Center, get a break when Georgia legislators increase a tax credit to 100 percent when donors donate to a rural hospital. April 21: The Liberty County Commission heard from juvenile court officials who said their caseload had doubled and that they had already spent more than the amount budgeted to operate through June 2018. Vickie Cook and Judge Lin- nie Darden told commis sioners that a 2014 change in the law led not only to more cases but to a demand for more services in each case. April 28: Liberty County School System Superinten dent Dr. Franklin Perry and school board members, Lily Baker, Verdell Jones, Dr. Yvette Keel, Marcia Ander son and Carol Guyett had frank discussions about the board during a retreat. Ludowici Mayor James Fuller, a Korean war veter an and longtime public ser vant, died at Coastal Manor. Fuller, 83, was in his second term as mayor. Mason Dale Raymond was born at 2:47 p.m. November 6, 2018, to Courtney Renee Wade of Thompson, Ga., and Nich olas Austin Raymond of Walterboro, S.C., at Liber ty Regional Medical Cen ter. Baby Mason weighed 7 pounds, .65 ounces and measured 19.5 inches. Her maternal grandparent is Kathy Esalena Wade, and paternal grandparents are Melissa and Joey Raymond. He is welcomed by sisters Katie Raymond, Sylvia Wade, and Crystal Seago and brothers Robert Lick, Lance Blackwelder, and Jus tice Raymond, and Johna than Raymond. Shellee Gumataotao was born at 8:21 p.m. No vember 17, 2018, to Jenilee and Shaun Gumataotao of Hinesville, Ga., at Liberty Regional Medical Cen ter. Baby Shellee weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 20 inches. Her maternal grandparents are Nicolas and Lorraine Cruz, and paternal grandparents Rita G. Cruz and Ernesto G. Canddeta. She is wel comed by a sister Shannon Gumataotao and brother Shawn N. Gumataotao. Titan Nathaniel Flem ing was born at 3:22 a.m. November 19, 2018, to Tecquilla Shenell Proctor of Hinesville, Ga., and Wil liam Nathaniel Fleming III of Midway, Ga., at Liberty Regional Medical Cen ter. Baby Titan weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and mea sured 20 inches. His mater nal grandparents are Peggy Buxton and Fredrick Proc tor, and paternal grandpar ents are Mary Ann Garner and William Fleming Jr. He is welcomed by a brother Dallas Dotson. Grayson August Lewis was born at 11:59, a.m. No vember 27, 2018 to Acacia Lewis of Hinesville, Ga., at Liberty Regional Medi cal Center. Baby Grayson weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounc es and measured 17 inches. His maternal grandpar ent is Angela Grant. He is welcomed by a sister Torri Mazo and brother Antione L. Wilson Jr. Josiah Osei Douglas was born at 8:36 a.m. December 2, 2018 to Mehico Douglas of San Diego, Calif., and Dennis Osei of Ghana, Af rica, at Liberty Regional Medical Center. Baby Jo siah weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and measured 19.5 inches. His maternal grand parent is Christine Douglas. He is welcomed by a broth er Elijah Emmanuel Doug las. De’asia Monique True- Love Hambrick was born at 11:25 p.m. December 4, 2018, to Ms. Hambrick of Hinesville, Ga., at Liberty Regional Medical Cen ter. Baby De’asia weighed 5 pounds, and measured 18 and 1/4 inches. She is welcomed by sister Denise Hambrick and brothers Ji-Zhi Hambrick and Jhaz- airyon Deboer. Ja’Kaylen Lamar An derson was born at 12:48 or p.m. December 4, 2018, to Taneka Anderson of Riceboro, Ga., at Liberty Regional Medical Center. Baby Ja’Kaylen weighed 6 pounds, 4.5 ounces and measured 19.5 inches. She is welcomed by brothers Michael J Anderson and La’Trayveon M Anderson. Meyer-Siliga Lansky Fraijo was born at 6:59 a.m. December 4, 2018, to Sum mer Fraijo of Compton, Calif., and Matini Tautau of Apia, Samoa, at Liber ty Regional Medical Cen ter. Baby Meyer weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and mea sured 20 and 1/4 inches. His maternal grandparent is Ronald Frajo, and paternal grandparent is Ifo Chester Brown. Arya Brielle Andrews was born at 1:11 p.m. De cember 14, 2018, to Valeria and Quincy Andrews of Hinesville, Ga., at Liberty Regional Medical Cen ter. Baby Arya weighed 9 pounds, 10 ounces and measured 21 inches. Her maternal grandparents are Marsha Jorpester and Ter ry Stephens, and paternal grandparents are Willie and Alline Rock.
