NORBY Midway— Hughey “Pete” Albert Hoak, Jr., 73, passed away on Decem ber 24, 2018 at his home after a long illness with family by his side. Pete was born in Savannah, Georgia on April 11,1945 to the late Hughey Sr. and Sally Clark Hoak. He had lived in Liberty County for the past 40 years. Ms. Penny Yvonne Posey, age 56, died December 23, 2018, at St. Jo seph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah. The native of Hawkinsville, Georgia, lived in Savannah for many years be fore moving to Hinesville. She worked at Hunter Army Airfield in the main tenance department. Henry G. Norby (“299”), 77, passed away at Landmark Hospi tal in Savannah, Wednesday, De cember 26, 2018, after a short ill ness. His wife was by his side. Born in Walthourville, he lived in Midway for most of his life. He was a lifelong construction worker Pete had been a resident of Liberty County for the past 40 years. He was a veteran of the United = States Marine Corps having served = during the Vietnam Era. Pete re ceived numerous ribbons and medals during his enlistment, including the Purple Heart. Pete was a mechanic by trade and he loved playing pool. He was of the Baptist Faith. Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Clark Hoak. Survivors are Hughey Hoak of Hinesville, Michael Hoak of Hinesville and Tracy Hoak of Long County; daughter, Marie (Darren) Marsh of South Carolina; brother, Gary Hoak of Nebraska and five grandchildren. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funer al home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Flemington with Pastor Robert Long officiating. Full military honors will be rendered. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Flem ing. Thomas L. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 Sign the online guest book at coastalcourier.com Madeline Rowland Mrs. Madeline Rowland, 80, of Midway, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born in Ludowici to the late James Virgil and Evener Florence Price. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Rowland, a daughter, Caroline Bonita Rowland, and a grandson, James Michael Driggers Sr. She retired as a seamstress and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed fishing and cook ing, especially baking cakes. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and Larry Dunlap; three grandchildren, Melissa R. Crites, Amanda and Kris Meekins Sr. and Bryan and Charlene Howell; 17 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grand children and several great-great-great-grandchildren; her twin brother and sister-in-law, Lester E. and Linda Price; and several nieces and nephews. The visitation will be on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at First United Pentecostal Church, 1735 Grove Point Road in Savannah from 11 a.m. until noon followed by the funeral in the sanctuary at noon. CRUISING COURIER Sonja Gordon, a retired Liberty County School administrator, recently returned from a 7-Day MSC Armonia cruise. Gordon said she sailed to Montego Bay, Jamai ca, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Mexico, and Havana, Cuba, which was "the highlight" of her entire trip. Gordon took the Coastal Couri er with her. Photo provided and worked for ESG Operations (City of Hinesville Public Works) for over 15 years where he was affec tionately known as “299” and for his sense of humor. He went to work early everyday to be sure he had time to pick on everybody. He worked until the day before he was hospitalized. Henry was also an accomplished mechanic, being honored with Mechanic of the Year several years at Oglethorpe Speedway where he was the mechanic for his son Donald’s racing team. He loved fishing with his son Robert, gardening, racing and his grandchildren. He was the tough guy who all the kids and grandkids in the family looked up to. He attended Midway United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Myrtie Norby, brothers, Thomas and James Norby, and sister, Ellen Powell. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jackie Norby, and sons, Robert Norby (Angie) and Donald Norby, of Midway; grandchildren, T.J. Norby, Kerstin Norby, Kasey Norby, and Kyndall Curl; brothers, Fred Nor by, Hiram Norby (Anne), Dewitt Norby (Carla), and Billy Norby (Lynda); sister-in-law, Marie Norby; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was 6-8 pm, Friday, December 28, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funer al services will begin at 11 a.m,.
