Call 884-3231 or email worship@clds. net. here are many situations where we experience loss ambiguously. A family member suffering from a brain injury or who is becoming progressively more senile certainly fits the criteria for ambiguous loss, because they are physically present but psychologically absent. Homesickness is also a case of ambiguous loss because the per son missed can be psychologically present, on the phone, for instance, but be physically absent. Choosing to move away from home or to break up with a romantic partner are clear cases of ambiguous loss, which we may have chosen in full knowledge that we would experience some sadness or melancholy. Abductions, missing persons, and cases where someone is lost are particularly difficult forms of ambiguous loss because the family and friends of the missing person simply don’t know what to expect. In some cases, the ambiguity resolves, people regain their health or missing persons are found, but often the ambiguity remains and there may never be closure. Dealing with these situations requires the ability to live with ambiguity. Usually there is no easy answer, and the tempta tion to solve these problems only exacerbates the experience of ambiguous loss, because it holds out the prospect of clo sure or resolution when there is none. - Christopher Simon Badcock&more Makes It Easy."
