What Will Satisfy the People?
For some time there lias been a
constant clamor for cheaper rates
on the railroads of the state, and
now, by order of the railroad com
mission of Georgia, reduced rates
for both freight and passenger fare
ha ve been put on by the railroads
in the state of Georgia.
There is a general complaint by
the public that instead of getting
goods and supplies cheaper the re
verse is too result, the maijnfac
turer and middleman reaping all
the profits from this reduced rate
—in fact, a number of staple goods
and supp 1i e s have been ad
vanced over the old rate before the
freight rates were lowered.
But with the reduced passsenger
rates everyone who purchases a
ticket enjoys this reduced rate,
large or small, according to the
distance lie travels.
But there is a greater dissatis
faction over the new passenger
rates than over the freight rates.
It was formerly the case that any
one could purchase a ticket to any
point over any number of roads
and rest easy on the ticket ques
tion for that trip, at least, but not
so now.
The railroads have made a new
ruling among themselves not to
have anything to “do” with one
another when it comes to selling
tickets over connecting lines. To
travel now, one must buy a ticket
at each terminal and re check all
baggage each time a new ticket is
bought.
If one wishes to go from this
place to some point on the Central,
say Hampton. When Griffin is
reached you have not only got to
buy a new ticket but yon must go
and hunt up your baggage and
then have it recliocked. The same
is true on any other trip yon take
where a terminal and new road is
leached.
On last Saturday at the local sta
tion here there was considerable
disappointment for a number of
people because they could not se
cure the regular week-end tickets
to Atlanta.
No round trip ticket s, no
through tickets over connecting
lines, no saving in the freight rate
to the final consumer, and an end
less chain of red tape when travel
ing is about the sum total secured
by this clamor of the politicians
for a cut in the railway fares of
the state.
There is a very small saving
to the person who travels but little
and a lot of worry that lias been
eliminated by the roads in the
through service given the public
by the former system.

ticians and yon reap an 'avalanche
of dissatisfaction and inconveni
ence for yourself,
The Fall Here,
The cotton and fall season is
now here, and all the local firms
are fully prepared for their many
customers.
Every merchant here is getting
large shipments of fall and winter
goods everyday now and in a few
days there will be one of the
most select lines of goods to he
had in McDonough in any town
in Middle Georgia.

already begun to tell the public
what they have.

nesday afternoon.
The home was beautifully decor
