Ward left Monday for an extended visit to relatives and friends at Augusta and Keys ville, Ga. Mrs. Parks Lee spent Monday in Atlanta. Mr. J. H. Crowell, of Atlanta, was a visitor in town this week. Mr. Charlie Kirkland, of Jones boro, w T as here for a few hours on Saturday. Mr. B. C. Ward spent a few days in Atlanta last week with his fami ly Messrs. J. T. Bond and S. S.Hen derson attended the Masters sale Wednesday. Mr. W. S. Witham, of Atlanta, was here a short time Wednesday on business. Mrs M. E. Ward visited relatives in McDonough this week. Mr. R. L. Berry, of Jonesboro, ■was a visitor in town Tuesday. Mr. B. L. Walden, of Forest Park spent Wednesday here. Mrs. W. F. Grant spent one day this week in McDonough. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Glass have moved into their new home on Jonesboro street. Mr. E. P. Simpson made a busi ness trip to Atlanta. Rev. Crawford, of Cedartown, was here Tuesday and Wednesday on business. Mr. B. H. Harrell spent Saturday in Atlanta. Mrs. Sallie Brannan is visiting her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Merritt, in Atlanta. LILLAK LOCAL ELECTS OFFICERS. PLEASANT GROVE, Miss Alice Kelley visited Miss Georgia Elliott Saturday night and Sunday. Mrs. John Elliott, who has been visiting Mr. A. C. Elliott and fam ilv, has gone to spend a few days with Mrs. Lige Morris. We regret to chronicle the death of Mr. Wesley Ford, and we ex tend to the family our sympathy. We are glad to know that Mr. Sam Aikin is improving fast—so well his nurse left him Sunday. We are sorry that the measles are playing hayoc with our schools. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Craig, of Bethany, attended services at O zias, Sunday. Mr. Will Helms had the misfor tune to lose his fine cow Sunday. There was a good size crowd out to hear Mr. Lige Oglesby preach Sunday, Everybody seemed to enjoy it. WHITE HOUSE. Christmas is almost here. Watch out Santa Claus ! Mr. Grady Morris is at home from Young Harris, to the delight of his many friends. Mrs. Bob Thompson and ing daughter, Nellie Mae, spent one day last week with Mrs. D. C. Collins and daughter. Miss Bessie Moseley spent last week with her aunt, Mrs. Nora Owens. Misses Nellie Mae Thompson and Nannie B. Collins enjoyed a horseback ride Wednesday. Mr. Ward Crumbley, of near Stockbridge, was in our communi ty last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Gem Moseley and Mr. and Mrs. Lum Cook, spent Sunday with Mr. Tip Moseley and family. Messrs. Walter Wilson and Gra dy Morris spent Sunday and Sun day night at Mrs. Dr. Hightower's. Mr. John Morris, of Union, was in our midst Sunday night. On last Sunday night Mr. Wes ley Ford reached the end of life s journey. He was one of the oldest and best known citizens of Henry county. He leaves a "wife and three sons and a host of grand children and friends to mourn his loss. The interment will occur at the Bowen burying ground by the Masonic order. STOCKBRIDGE. One of the most delightful af fairs of the week was the recep tion given by Mr. and Mrs. Augus tus Swann, on last Friday even ing. Their beautiful new home, “Oakhaven,” was most attractive with decorations and lights, the entire lower floor being thrown together. After a number of most enjoyable games, elegant salads were served. Coffee, cake and bonbons were Served in the dining room by Misses Estelle and Beulah Hightower, the table being pretti ly decorated in chrysanthemums and lighted with red candles. The affair was characteristic of Mr. and Mrs. Swann’s charming hos pitality, and the guests included a number of their friends. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Ward en tertained a few friends most de lightfully last Saturday, evening in honor of Miss Ella Berry and Miss Henry Blalock, of Jonesboro. An interesting game of forty-two was played, after which delightful refreshments were served. The included Mr. and Mrs. Au gustuses Swann, Mrs. Zack Ward, Lieut. Grace, Mr. Lovick Fortson and Mr. Edwin Simpson. Misses Ella and Allie Berry were the attractive hostesses to the Joe Wheeler Chapter, U. D C., last Wednesday afternoon, at the for mer’s beautiful country home. The reception hall and living room were decorated in the chapter’s colors, red and white. As the guests entered they wereT served coffee by Mrs. McCurry and Mrs. Howard Carmichael. After the usual routine of business a limer ick contest pro ve d quite an enjoyable feature of the enter tainment, Miss Embry winning the prize, a beautiful illustrated copy of ‘‘Suwanee River.” After a rec itation by Mrs. W. Most all patrons of the dis trict have responded heartily in helping to build. We spent last Sunday with Mr. I. H. Gunter’s family and have never been more courteously treat ed. Mr. and Mrs. Gunter are verv \ _ w genial people and can send their guests away with joyous hearts. 6. W. JOHNSON. MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT. We will have an entertainment next Friday night which will be composed of Mucsic, Recitations, an address on farming, a box sup per, and voting on the two most popular young ladies. We cordially invite all the com munity and the adjoining neigh borhoods. Union Graded School. PROGRESS. Well, it has been quite rainy once more. Mr. Loyick Johnson came home and made up a rabbit hunt and had good luck—killed six rabbits, two birds and seven flying squir rels. Mr. Parks McCullough visited Mr. J. T. Johnson and family Sun day. We had a rather big crowd at Sunday school. Mr. Clarence Strickland and Miss Mattie Lee McMullen wt nt out riding Sunday. Jordan Johnson was the guest Of Robert Strickland Sunday. Henry Strickland spent ore night last week with Mr. W. R. Jarret. Mrs. J. F. Johnson is visiting relatives in Atlanta this week: Little Miss Essie Strickland vis ited little Estelle Alt minder Snn day. Mr. Henrv Strickland was the gnest of Mr. Cliff Wood Sunday last. Mrs. T. B. Massey and son visit ed relatives near Hampton last week. ' Mr. Tom Wall, who is in the cot ton business at Selma, Ala., will arrive the first of next week to spend the holidays with home folks.
