As the date for the Primary approaches it behooves the voters to seriously consid er the question of selecting a Solicitor- General for the Flint Circuit. This of fice is one of the most important ones in the gift of the people. The Solictor-Gen eral is more chargeable with the enforce ment of the criminal laws than any other I official. Two things are absolutely es | sen tin lin a Solicitor General, viz: hon ; esty and capacity. He should above all ' Things, be honest and sincere: his integ rity should be unquestioned arel he should have moral courage. Otherwise r he can so prostitute the office of > rose cuting attorney as to bring the whole court into disrepute and make the ad ministration of justice a farce. If he is not honest he can so conduct the affairs of the office that criminals ’ entertain no fear of punishment ft', HwUffs - Jl col,rts - decent men will lose 1 nil See}>eo{ for, confidence in iht courts. Krally fiOtliilig Pan so surely destroy the tJaefuffrPsS of the courts tis in struments for Upholding the laws anti the protection of the citizen as a General without integrity. There can lie no real security for the "itizen save in the wise, impartial and prOv'Pt' enforcement of the laws of the Jn no other way can life, liberty »nd pr_*oerty be protected, and even the e?uirls thcmth'Ues >voulu lie powerless to iWfard this protectwithout the assist ance* of an honest prt/ffccnting attorney. A SWicitor-General ffftotiM also be cap able. should be selected from anting the-yery he*t lawyers in the land. He has to’ represent all the people of the State in prosecution*, before the courts. He man ages all criiivarasl cases, conducts all pros eeutions, and rw -doing so has as counsel on the* other side- she very best legal talent in the land. If the citizen in has* individual capacity should need the services of a lawyer he would naturally select the best one to be had. more especially would he desire to have an attorney equally as experienced, skilled and learned as the lawyer on other side of the case. He. should feel and act the same way In selecting a So licitor General, for any day he is likely to have a case in court which the Solicitor General must conduct by virtue of his of flee. Should a man without legal talent learning or experience is* elected Solicitor General, no matter how honest he might be, lie would I e unable to cope successful ly with the able lawyers employed to de fend the criminal. The result would be that justice would be defeated, guilty persons would escape puaishmeut altc gether. and thus encouraged, others evil' ly, inclined would commit crimes and soon the law abiding element would be at the mercy of the criminals, and life lib erty and property would nowhere be se cure. Measured by the foregoing standards let us see where Mr. Wise stands. Is he honesty Ask those among whom he was born and reared, and among whom he has spent his young manhood, and the answer will come thundering back from every throat that he is not only honest but like Caesar’s wife, “above suspicion.” Yea. his most bluer enemy, if he has one, would testify to his integrity. Is he capable? Ask the Judges before whom he practices, and the attorneys who practice wjtji him in the courts, and the answer will be unanimous that he one of the most capable attorneys prac ticing at the Georgia bar, and amply able to take care of his side of the case no mat ter huw nuiperoipj op pble may be the coil hsel on tile other side. Without otie word of disparagement of the other candidates we believe Mr. Wise the best qualified man In the race, and as such is entitled to the support of the peo ple of the circuit. Voters of thecireuit, let us get together, and laying aside all personal preferences, aud questions of residence or other things and vote for and elect, the man that we honestly think would make t'«e best Soli citor General. -A FRIEND.
