BLJJI. - - McDonough, Ga , Dec. 25, 1908. j Foolscap Paper. There is a strange phrase, whose origin has puzzled many. From an old record it appears that Char les I of England, granted numer ous monopolies for obtainment of money for his purposes, independ ently of the parliamentary grants, j among others the manufacture of j paper, The water mark of the best paper of the time was therov- j al arms of England. The consump- j tion of this article was great and large fortunes were made by those j who had purchased the exclusive right to vend it. This, among other monopolies, was set aside by the Parliament! that brought Charles to the scaf -1 old ; and by way of showing con tempt for the King they ordered the royal arms to be removed from the paper a id a fool with his cap and bells substituted. It is now more than 250 years since the fool's cap was taken form the paper, but stall the paper of tne size, which the Revolutionary Parlunent or dered for their journals bears the name of the watermark placed there as an indignity to King Charles, * I’or a l.ame Hack When you have pains or lameness in the hack bathe the carts with chamber lain’s Liniment twice a day. massaging witri the palm of the hand for five min m sat each annHeation. In the approaching Christmas season, let us not forget those higher and nobler Christian thoughts and impulses that will conduce most to a fitting and righteous enjoyment of the festi val. Let us all remember the signifi cance of the day we celebrate ns Christmas, and let our every ac tion and thought be guided and guarded aocOrdingly. Let us not forgot, to O' the flight; of time, and that each one of these days that come make one year , less of our pilgrimage on earth—‘ 1 and brings ns nearer to the bourne from whence no traveler ever re turns. Lid,us not forget those about us J who are less foitunate than we. Let us not forget, to drop a few j pennies into the hands of the need jy that their firesides may be -brighter and their hearts and ; lives made less desolate and fuller of the Oliiistly cheer. Let ns not forget those whose means are munificent but whose j nerves and health have been shat j tered by the over-taxing of their | minds and bodies, but whose mind | and heart are desolate—those sweet voices of God’s ministering spirits have been entirely barred by the hurry, scurry of a never yielding mania to secure those things in life that, alone, do not i contribute one iota to real hearty cheer and happiness. Let us not forget to be courteous and patient with tho.se who may have to toil on most of the time that our time may In more fully given to the enjoyment of this fes tival. And in the giving let as not forget that extravagance will not contribute to out* happiness, but will serve rather to distress and annov ns, and to lessen the true esteem of the recipient Let. ns not ffir-re(that tbe star of the wor’d's redemption whs s-t in the heavens on Christmas duv Improvements Made About Indian Springs. Hereafter ltaiuy Weather Will Not Affect approach to Spring. The State is making some great ly needed improvements on its pro perty at Indian Spring. A six foot brick wall, 90 by 120 feat., is being built around the spring, taking in the pavilion, and going up the bill about half way between the spring and hotel. This will prove a great addition to the State's property. Hereto fore in rainy weather- the spring lias been unapproachable, and this has probably kept a great number of visitors awaysfrom this delight ful heath resort in wet season. Ed Hord, of Indian Spring, is the contractor in charge of the work, and he expects to finish it by the middle of the week. The wall when finished will cost $2,500. 11l lleldi is More Expensive Tlian any Cure This country is now Idled with people who migrate across the continent in all ; directions seeking that which gold can ! not buy. Nine-tents of them are suffer l ing from throat and lung trouble or j chronic catarrh resulting from neglected j colds, and spending fortunes vainly try ing to regain lost health.
