Great Day.
Daughters of Conlederacy Unveil the
Handsome Monument with
Impressive Ceremonies.
TAG DAY WILL BE A FEATURE ALSO.
After many months of weary
work and straggles our noble wo
men are about to realize their
hopes. The handsome monument,
v, ith its tall granite shaft and fine
figure to surmount it, has arrived
and is now being placed in position
in the center of the public square.
Next Tuesday the Daughters of
the Confederacy, who have ob
t ined this beautiful shaft, will
unveil it and formally present it.
At 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon
the veterans will gather at Mc-
Donough City School and march
in a body to the Court House.
At 1:30 o’clock Tuesday after
noon the exercises proper will be
gin at the Court house in the su
perior court room.
The address of the occasion will
made by the Hon. Walter Me
/Elreath, of Atlanta. Mr. McEl
reath is one of Fulton county’s
representatives in the Georgia
Legislature and a lawyer of dis
tinguished ability. He was one of
the leadeis in the recent cam
paign in Atlanta for thei rbig bond
issue for public improvements.
He is an eloquent speaker and it
will be a treat to hear him.
A beautiful progra'm has been
arranged by the fair Daughters,
as will bo seen by reference to it
in another column. Two of the
features will be the unveiling by
thirteen little girls and decora
tion of the monument by the stu
dent body of the public schools.
And throughout the day taggers
■will be busy with the touching op
erations incident Tag Day.
Let everybody come and enjoy
the day.

Meets iu Afternoon.
Last Sunday dawned bright and
cheerful, as if the day had been
made by the good Giver of Light,
just for the occasion, and many a
prayer ascends 4 > Him that the in
spiring meetings cf this day may
be an earnest of more glorious
things fer the future of the Sun
day School cause in Henry county.
According to previous announce
ment, the day’s exercises began
with Sunday School at the McDon
ough Methodist Church All the
other Sunday Schools of McDono
ugh joined with the Methodists
and had one great school, with Mr.
‘J. S. Hurt as Superintendent.; as
nearly as possible,* the original
classes of the host, were preserved
and were joined by tlie classes of
the corresponding grades from the
other schools.
At eleven o’clock, all the church
es of the town und visiting
delegates worshipped together in
the Methodist church. The Rev.
John I. Armstrong, of Kirkwood
Presbyterian church, Moderator
of Atlanta Presbytery, preached
an excellent sermon on the Sun
day School and Children. We
would have been glad if every
parent, and every lover of child
ren in the county could have par
taken of the fine food for thought
with which this discourse was la
den.
AFTERNOON MEETING.
At 2 :30 edclock in the afternoon,
President R. C. Brown called the
Meeting of the Henry County Sun
day School association to order.
The following are the minutes
of the meeting, by the Secretary

After several songs, Hon. R. C.
Brown, in a brief but “pointed”
talk retired as President, v ;d Hon.
Frank Reagan was installed as
President. He made an excellent
speech of acceptance.
Mr Hrß. Neal was elected Sec
retary Pro. Tern, in the absence of
t: e newly elected Secretary, Mr.
U. R. Hinton.
The election of other officers was
then taken up, and the following
were elected :

Motion was made by Brother W.
W. Milam that the the association
hold its next meeting with the
Stockbridge Method:.*-1 church, on
such date as shall he fixed hv the

Brother Milam extended the invi
tation for his school, and the mo
tion was unanimously adopted
A motion was made and adopted
instructing the Secretary of the
Association to notify all the offic
ers and committee members elect
ed of their election.
The association adjourned with

THE PROPOSED i RAIN CHANGE.
Griffin and its fine papers have entered into the fight
against the proposed discontinuance of the Columbus trains
through McDonough and Griffin.
The Railroad Commission has set May 18, 1910, for
the hearing.
We publish below the petition, and let everybody sign
it and mail it to The Wee!■:!}’.
Petitions will be in eveiy place of business in McDon
ough by the end of rfie week. So come in und sign one
of them, if you do not sign the one below:
To the Honorable Railroad Commission of Georgia,
Atlanta, Georgia.
As a citizen of Henry county, T respectfully reques'
that your honorable body do not allow such a change of its
present schedule by the Southern Railway Company as
would have its morning train from Atlanta to Columbus,
known as No. 30, run over the A. & F. Tracks to William
son and cease to run through McDonough, Greenwood, Lu
elia, and Griffin.
Gentlemen representing me and other citizens will pre
sent to you on my behalf and theirs, in detail, the good rea
sons why we make this request.

Pike County Body Highly Commends
Him.
At. the April, 1910, term of Pike
Superior Court, which adjouimd
a week ago, the grand jury com
mended Judge Dupree’s candidacy
for Judge of the Superior Courts
in the following words :
“Whereas, Judge E. F. Dupree is
a candidate for Judge of the Su
perior Courts of the Flint Circuit,
and whereas his eminent qualifi
cations in every respect so admir
ably fit him for the position and
the county of Pike has never hud
the honor of furnishing the Judge
of sf id courts, be it resolved :
“That we heartily and enthusi
astically endorse his candidacy
and commend him to the people of
the Flint circuit as in every re
spect worthy and deserving otq
this high honor, being a man of
the highest character, both pub
lic and private, of unimpeachable
integrity, rigid honesty and also
lute impartiality, a lawyer of rec
ognized ability and a man who
has demonstrated his fitness for
the position by a long term of
service as a county court, and »
City court judge, that. Pike county
presents him to the voters of the
circuit as in every sense worthy of
their support for the position to
which ho laudably aspires.”
