The Henry County Weekly VOL. XXXV 8 Tuesday’s Primary Elec= tion Close and Exciting Over the State. Former Governor Endorsed. \ Bartlett Returns to Congress. Daniel is Nominated for Judge. COMPLETE RETURNS FOR OTHER OFFICES NOT YET RECEIVED. PERRY SEExMS TO HAVE DEFEATED STEVENS, PRISON COMMISSIONER. Hoke Smith our next Governor. So it was de= cided at the State Primary on last Tuesday. In a most exciting but unusually orderly election, Smith made many gains in Brown’s territory of two years ago; and lost but a small part of his own to Brown. Nearly every county in middle Georgia went for Smith. Butts, Fayette and Spalding changed from the Biown to the Smith column. Every county has not as yet reported its official count, but, af + er eliminating every uncertainity, Hoke Smith will have a majority in the convention of from 75 to 90 votes. Henry county gave 113 majority for Smith, Mc- Donough district’s majority being 105. For Congress; Blood worth carried every precinct but one and received a large majority over the com bined opposition. Judge Daniel carries the county for Judge by a majority of 354. The exact figures from the other counties are not yet received in the races for Congress and Judge; but enough is at hand to show that Bartlett is re turned to Congress, having carried Bibb, Baldwin, Jones, Pike and Upson counties, making 14 votes in the convention out of a total of 26. Bloodworth carries Butts, Fayette, Henry and Monroe, a total of 10 votes, and Flynt carries Spalding, 2 votes. Daniel for Judge has carried five of the seven counties in the circuit. Incomplete returns indicate that J. A. Perry has defeated O. B. Stevens for the latter’s place as Rail road Commissioner. The Executive Committee met at the court house and consolidated the election returns for this county at noon, Wednesday. The Chairman appointed the following delegates to the State Convention: Messrs. J. F. Wall, C. C. Fargason, of McDon ough; and Messrs. W. M. Harris, of Hampton, and Fox Askew, of Stockbridge. The complete tabulated vote for Henry county is given herewith. mcdonouoh. gf.orgia.
