Rex. Mr. Cassie McMullen was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Linton Pow ell last Tuesday night. Messrs. Elon and Snodie Clark visited the Gate City Tuesday. Mrs. Walter Estes returned home Sunday night from a delightful visit to her parents in North Car olina. Mrs. Will King spent Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Francis Kirk land. Mr. W. I. Mitchell was in our town Friday and Saturday. Mrs. John Barr and her daugh ter, Mrs. Gunter, went to Atlanta Tuesday. Mrs. George All, from down near Dutchtown, was a visitor in Rex Friday. Miss Ruby Patillo is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. Eulalah Patillo. Miss Birdie Powell is very sick at this writing. Little Master Eugene McMullen, from Jonesboro, has spent two weeks with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Linton Howell. Mrs. Kate Burks visited friends in Atlanta a few days last week. Miss Brittain is a visitor here this week from North Carolina. Miss Annie Mae Milam spent Wednesday with Mrs. Will King. Cotton and corn are locking fine through this community. I have already seen one cotton bloom. ' Misses Odessa and Myrtice Dease were the guests of Miss Annie M. Milam Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. Tom Sanders visited the city last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hammock are visitors down here from At lanta. Mr. Seth Callahan and wife spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Will Callahan. Mrs. Zenomia Patillo was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Burks Sunday and Monday. Mrs. Lila Stephenson was |at Mrs. Minnie Kyle’s Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Barr spent Sunday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mays, of near Stockbridge. Miss Daisy Reynolds and her brother, from Decatur, were the guests of Misses Vesta and Alma Mitchell last Sunday. Little Miss Ruth Kyle spent Sat uYday night and Sunday with Miss Ethel Callahan. Carmel, were the guests of relatives here a short while Sunday morning. Miss Estelle Alexander spent Sat urday and Sunday with Miss Eva Fields. Mr. A. G. Harris and daughter, Mrs. Tom Woodruff,made a pop-calj here Friday afternoon. Mrs. Nellie Warren and children, of Florida, arrived here Friday morning te spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Roundtree. « Mr. Grady Mays, of Stockbridge, was a visitor here Sunday. Mrs. Josie Lovorn and daughter. Mrs. Clarence Strickland, left Sun day for a week’s stay with the former's son, Mr. John Lovom, of Hampton. Miss Elia Smith is visiting rela tives here this week. Mr. B. O. Fields made a business trip to McDonough Tuesday morn ing. Mr. and Mrs. Lin Rays, of Salem, Hncnt Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bennett and family. Mrs. Sallie Foster and Miss Den nis Fields were visitors in Tunis Thursday afternoon. Little Mr. T. R. Hightower, of Stockbridge, was the guest of his sister. Mrs, Abb Hands, last week. Miss Myrtice Mays, of Stock bridge, visited Miss Dennis Fields Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Lovorn and family spent Sunday with relatives here. Several from here attended the singing at Mt. Carmel Sunday af ternoon. , Miss V anie Hood was the guest of Dutchtown friends and relatives a few days last week. Mrs. Cora Fields had as her guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. How ard Class and Mr. and Mrs. Otis Fields. Miss Elon Hinton, of Flat Rock, spent the week-end with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Alexander were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rowan one day last week. Messrs. Hiram and Parks Cook, of McDonough, spent Sunday with Mr. Abb Harris. S. K. N. The Garden Spot We farmers will be very busy for a few days now. We have had a lot of company in the shape of general green. Mrs. Tom Turner is quite sick at this time. Mr. Wm. Alexander is taking treatment at Dr. Lee’s Sanitarium at Red Oak, Cambell county. Mrs. Nathan Strickland is quite sick at this writing. Mr. Henry Riley had the first cotton bloom. Mr. Tom Strickland and Bud Exum have fine cotton and corn. They believe in the old fashion way of of having to work the crop and that makes the guano avail able. It is a hard way to make stuff, but a sure way. The new way won’t feed the people. Mr. Editor, I hope you a good time on the 4th. Come to Mt. Carmel and take dinner with me. Happy Happenings. We have had several good show ers of rain, and crops are looking fine and farmers are smiling. The little boys are taking the day. When it rains they are just running over the country, and we think we will have to tie a weight to them to hold them down. Come ahead, little boys. I am ready to help them tie you. Mrs. Hattie Campbell and her daughter. Miss Lelah. spent a few days this past week with the form er’s sister, Mrs. Cns Tnrnipseed. Miss Jessie accompanied them home last Friday night. Mrs. Lizzie Johnson, of Griffin, is visiting her sister. Mrs. George Harnett, and other friends and re latives of this place at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Banks visit ed their children at Milner, Mr. and Mrs. Will Pendley and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Banks, Saturday night and Sunday. We are glad to note that Mr. D. C. Stone is improving rapidly. Mr. and Mrs. Harvie Barnett were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Calloway last Wednesday night and also Mr and Mrs. George Cal loway Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Stanfield were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Am Mit chell Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. McLendon vis ited relatives in Stockbridge last week. Mr. J. C. Stone was the guest of Messrs. Watson and Hatlie Stan fuld Friday night. Miss Mary Jim Wallace spent a few days in the city of Hampton last week, with her sisters, Mrs. Adna and Mrs. Carrie Daniel and Mrs. Minnie Pool. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. McLendon visited their son, Mr. J. T. Wtllace, at Byron a few days the past week. Mr. Ernie Campbell visited rela tives of this place Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Stanfield and family and Miss Lillian Stanfield visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dorsey and family Sunday last. Miss Maud Banks was the guest of Miss Flossie Pendley Saturday night. Little Ethel Stanfield, who has been in Atlanta in the hospital tak ing treatment for her leg, which was stung last summer, has return ed home. She is some better, to the joy of her many friends. Mr. W. T. Stanfield has purchas ed him a new buggy. Messrs. Josh Dorsey and Frank Landers were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Dorsey last Sunday. Well, as the writer is not well and news is scarce, she will have to cut the locals short this time. Mrs. Ida Callaway and Miss Lillian Stanfield were the guests of Mrs. Beatie Barnett last Saturday. Miss Essie McGuirt, after a few days’ visit 1o her sister, Mrs. Wut- Kins. has returned to her home. Mr. and Mrs. George Callaway and Miss Lelah Callaway visited Mr. and Mrs. Sam Campbell, of Riverdale, last Saturday night and Sunday, and also Mr. and Mrs. Chat Dorsey.
