The Hampton Public Schools had an enthusiastic opening Mon day morning with a good attend ance of pupils and a hundred or more patrons and friends. After some preliminary exer cises, short addresses were de livered by Trustees Harris, Moore, Davis, and Wilson; Rev. R. F. Smith, Locust Grove; Prof Chap man, a former superintendent of the school; Rev. J. E. England pastor of the Hampton Methodist church; and the County School Superintendent. To such hearty encouragement and welcome Prof. T. J. Horton responded ap propriately. The program was interspersed with a duet by Messrs. Barnett and son, the latter being a pupil of the school, and songs by the children The faculty is made up of Prof. T. J. Horton, Principal, Misses Smith, Harris, and Biggers and Mrs. Brown. Hampton is to be congratulated on such a manifest interest in her educational welfare. Singing at Bethany There will be a singing at Beth on the fourth Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The singers will be made up of Pr f. Sam Rosser’s singing class at Daniel’s, Philadel phia, and Bethany. We expect every pupil to be present without any excuse. Come early and bring your book. The leaders will be the boys who lead in school, so get your lesson ready, boys. We invite all singers to come and sing with us. This singing is to create within the young people more interest in the song field. So everybody come and listen to the little boys and speak a good word to cheer them up. Mr. WymanfSloan left Wednes day for the Georgia Technological School. McDonough, Georgia, Friday September 20, 1912. Another Account. Monday morning showed that the people of Hampton and com munity have taken on new life re garding education. The interest manifested was a great surprise. We were thrilled with enthus iasm when we saw the horses, mules, buggies, and automobiles around the school grounds. The bui'ding and grounds had all been put in order, new room arranged for the primary grades and everything looked like a thing of life. The banks, stores, and offices were closed and the ladies shut up their houses and the enthus iasm was such as has not been witnessed in Hampton in many years. The exercises were opened by singing, and prayer by Bro.her England. Encouraging and inter esting talks were made by W. M. Harris, J. L. Moore, W. S. Davis, J. L. Chapman, R. F. Smith, 0. 0 Tolleson, J. E. England, W. P. Wilson, and Prof. T. J. Horton. The exercises lasted till 12 o’clock. Prof. Horton and his entire list of teachers have been received with glad and open hearts by the entire town and community. Our music teacher, who has made such marked distinction in her profession, started off with all the pupils she can accomodate. We are proud of her because she is one of our own. Miss Ethel Ed wards. It was the largest opening of pupils and most enthusiastic meeting of parents and friends of the school Hampton has had in ten years, it ever, and every one left the school saying, we have the faculty and material now to make one of the best schools in the state. The promised cooperation and good feeling, if kept up, will bring about wonderfully rc-u'ts. Let every one in this community say a good word for the school and keep on saying it. A Patron. Dear sir: With your toleration I will again write a few lines. I notice in last week’s paper where “Pearl” want ed information as to who wp should call father. I want to say in the beginning, that we have a Heavenly Father, an ian earthly father. We will see in Luke the 11th chapter, 11, i 2, and 13th verses, where Christ m teaching people to pray, made use of the word Heavenly Father and earthly father. “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.” We will learn from this that David made mention of his earth ly father, and then looked to the Lord, as his Heavenly Father We will now read the following scripture: Earthly father, Lis duty: Deu 21: 18; 19. Eph. 6: 4; Col. 3,21; Heb. 12:9. Children should obey; Eph. 20: 12; Prov. 6:20; Eph. 6: 1; 2. Other mention of earthly father: Ex. 20: 5; Num. 14: 18; Ist. Kgs. 19: FLINT RIVER ASSOCIATION MEETS NEXT TUESDAY Will Convene at the Rock Church on the 24th Instant. This shows us that we have an earthly father. Now when Christ said call no man father, he meant to have no one as a Father to worship on the earth. We are taught all through tfae Bible not to worship idols, and have ONE Lord, ONE faith, and ONE bap tism, so that the Lord is God the Father. Some people worship their preachers, and by so doing they worship him as a father and com mit sin. You can say something against some people’s preacher, and you have a fight on vour hands, but you can stand and take the name of the Great God and Father in vain all day in their presence, and this is but fun for them. These are they that call men father worship them. We that hau«“ earthly fathers should honor tlat* as such, but not worship then*, worship no one save the Great God and his Christ. lam proud to see interest shown along these lines, and know that people are reading their bibles, as this is indeed for the soul. People to be Christas must be Christ-like. Christ read, the bible, he went about do>s*r good so we in like manner must do so, in order to inherit the dom of heaven. So let’s pull to-gether. feast - on the word of God. andjn thiz have the assurance, tba* when iwe are through with the cares of this world we hxw a home beyond the skies.
