The Henry County Teachers Association met at Flippen last Saturday and enjoyed a very de lightful day. The meeting was opened by devetional exercises led by M r . Johnson, then an ad dress by President Cates on “The Future Policies of the Association.” The special theme of the morn ing was “Education through Play.” It was discussed by Miss Pearl Warren, Hopewell; Prof. H. T. Murphy, Pleasant Grove; and Mrs. R. H. Hankinson, McDonough. Their papers furnished such val uable information on the subject that the Secretary is preserving them for the future use of the As sociation. The program was made the delightful w’ith readings bv Miss Florence Sappington,Hickory Flat; Miss May Glass, Flippen; and a pupil from Fairview School. Miss Manta Brown and a readily res ponsive first grade class from Stockbridge gave a good example of teaching reading to beginners. At noon dinner was spread, everybody taking part. The Flip pen show they know how to do things. The afternoon was spent in ten nis contests between the various schools represented. Besides a good attendance of teachers and home patrons and friends other schools were repre sented by trustees and patrons. These meeting are proving profit able and enjoyable and it is regret t ;d that any have to miss them. The association goes to Locust Grove next time, Feb. 7,1914. The January meeting is omitted since this is such a busy time and the weather uncertain. The special theme is “The school as the Com munity Center.” The Board of Education met ' last Tuesday. OEOIWHA, FRIDAY DECEMBER la. 19JJ (Cut furnished by The Atlanta Georgian.) MR. JASON H. WEEMS HEARS DEATH S CALL Excellent and Prominent Citizen of Lowe’s District Died Thurs day of Last Week. Mr. Jason H. Weems died at his home near Luella Thursday morning ol last week. He would have been 74 years of age on the first day of January next and his had been a useful and exemplary life. He was a gentle man of the old school, possessing a rare intellect and numerous at tractive and w inning traits of char acter. As a consequence he pos sessed a host of friends through out the county, who valued him in life and will miss him in death. Mr. Weems was one of the Con federacy’s best soldiers and saw four years active service in the Spflding Greys. He was a member of the Meth odist church and in his life was an exemplar of its teachings. The funeral and interment were at Berea church at Hampton Fri day afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. The Rev. A. B. Sanders cenducted the services. Mr. Weems is survived by his wife: one daughter, Mrs. Lu :ile Dorton: and three sons; Messrs. Douglas M. Weems, Lewis H. Weems, and T. D. Weems. salaries as soon as the report is received. Those passing through McDonough on the way for the holiday visit, ma/ get checks by calling by the office. We expect the best from the teachers and try to give them the best in return. HENRY COUNTY CLUBS WIN PRIZES IN ATLANTA. L. T. Bella!) Wins Fifth Corn Club Prize—Miss Marie Daniel Seventh Canning Club Prize. HENRY'S CORN CLUB BOYS WINS ELEVENTH PRIZE. Henry county should feel proud indeed of her girls and boys of the Canning and Corn Clubs. They made a most excellent showing at the immense corn ahow in Atlanta last week. Mr. Levi T. Bellah won the fifth individual prize in Class 2. His yield was 146.5 bushels, at a profit of $127.02. The prize he wins is a $50.00 feed mill. Henry’s county corn club won the eleventh prize of $20.00 in cash, for exhibit of county clubs. Miss Marte Daniel won the Mr. Fred Kelley Attacked By Appendicitis. Mr. Fred Kelley’s many friends here will hear with regret of his serious illness in an Atlanta sani tarium. He was ittacked with appendi citis and underwent an operation Sunday afternoon. Our last re porta were that he was doing nicely, with good chances for an early recovery. Mr*. W. B. Kelley. seventh prize in the pirls’ canning club contest. This was $5.00 in t cash. These young people are very enthusiastic over their visit to the show and their treatment by the people of Atlanta. Our own girls and boys made a splendid showing in a contest in which more than a thousand others were entered. Let us encourage them and praise them and help them to stand at the very top the next time. Bowensville. Miss Nell Bowen spent SaturLiy and Sunday with Mrs. N. J. Boweu. Mrs. N. J.
