This Interesting Annual Affair

The Woman’s Missionary So
ciety of the McDonough Presby
terian church will hold their an
nual tea on Friday evening, March
the 13th, at 7:30 o’clook, at the
residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Carmichael.

HAMPTON SCHOOL HAVE
RALLY DAY FRIDAY.
Patriotic Program For the Thir
teenth Arranged. Judge E.
J. Reagan Will Speak.
The pepole of Hampton and
especially of the Hampton school
have planned a great Rally Day
for next Friday, the 13th instant.
The exercises will begin at 9
o’clock in the morning and close
at noon.
At 10 o’clock Judge E. J. Reagan
of McDonough, will make an ad
dress.
Many other interesting features
have been planned and it will be
a pleasant and profitable occasion
for all the people.
Hampton is an example of what
a community may become in an
educational way when the spirit
for school betterment is diffused
among the people of such a com
munity.
In Hampton everybody believes
in the school. This interest has
led to the selection of an excellent
superintendent and faculty and
the consequent building of one of
the finest town schools in the
State.
Everybody is cordially invited
to attend these exercises at the
Hampton school.

LOSE LITTLE GIRL
Shakerag District Citizen’s
Daughter Died Wednesday
Of Last Week.
Mr. and Mrs. E. C. George’s lit
tle four year old daughter died
at their home in Shakerag dis
trict Wednesday morning of last
week at 6 o’clock.
She was a bright sweet little
child, the very sunshine of the
home and an inspiration in the
whole community. All who knew
her mourn her death as a person
al loss*
The funeral and interment were
at Bethel church Friday' morning
at 11 o’clock. Mr. Will South
conducted the services.

Announcement Made Tuesday
When Mrs W. W. Turner Was
Hostess To Friends.
Mrs. Willie Turner entertained
delightfuffy at rook Tuesday after
noon twenty of her friends.
This was in compliment to her
sister, Miss Ruby Walker, and an
nouncing her engaement to Mr. J.
Sidney Smith, of Savannah, the
wedding to occur on the 2d day
of April.
The house was decorated with
many jonquills and hyacinths, the
color scheme being yellow and
white.
A delicious salad course was
served, after which Mrs. Homer
Turner announced the happy
news of the engagement.
Miss Walker, the bride-elect, is
a daughter of Emma Walker,
and is a native of McDonough, one
of whom the whole town is in
deed proud. She is a charming
voung lady, possessing many
graces of mind and person and
pleasing accomplishments.
She is a general favorite here
with her home folk and has been
much admired wherever she has
visited. Her hosts of friends
throughout the State are extend
ing their very best wishes.
Mr. Smith is a capable and very
popular young business man of
Savannah and has made many
friends here during his visits.
He has friends in large numbers
who are taking pleasure in con
gratuating him upon his rare
good fortune.

WINS GOLD STAR.
Meeting of Sunday schools At
Stockbridge Reveals High
Standard Reached By All.
The Northern Division of the
Sunday School Association met at
Stockbridge Methodist Church
Sunday, February 22d, and held
one of the most enjoyable meet
ings we have yet attended.
The meeting opened with song,
anti p"uyer by Brother Briscoe, of
Atlanta, fo.lowed by address by
Broth r Briscoe,on “What it Takes
to M ike An Ideal Sunday School.”
He made an able and interesting
address.
This was followed by Mr. S. K.
Austin, Field Worker for the
Northern Division.
The afternoon services were
conducted by Brother W. W. Mi
lam. Each school in the North
ern Division was taken up and
questioned as to “What it had
done in the Sunday School Work.”
Nearly ,’l of the* Schools were
rep re unted by one or more of its
members.
The Northern Division has come
up to what it takes to be “A Gold
Star Division”, and we trust that
the other divisions will come up
to this standard.
We all appreciate what Brother
W. W. Milam and others are do
ing for tin Sunday School work.
Let’s join hands and make this
year’s work in the Sunday School
field the best in our lives, and,
then we will be blessed in other
departments of the church.

Henry County Teachers’ Associa
tion a committee was appointed to
a range the details of a contest
for the county schools. We, the

study: “The Presidents of the U.
S. since 1860.” One president se
lected as theme of essay. Writ
ten in presence of judges. Time,
45 minutes. Open to all grades.
One contestant.
Spelling. —Five vords dictated
from Swinton’s Word Rook. Writ
ten in presence of judges. Prop
er ancT foreign names debarred.

grades. One contestant in either
declamation or recitation, but not
one in both.
100-Yard Dash. —One contest

Mr. S. A. Tolleson announces
his candidacy for the office of
Corcnei in this issue The Weekly.
Mr. Tolleson is a resident of
Sanby Ridge district and is one of
Henry county’s best citizens. He
is worthy of the honor and is
thoroughly capable of filling the
office and performing well all its
duties. • •
He is also a man of pleasing
personality, which has made for
him many friends throughout the
county. These will make him a
strong runner in this race.

POINTS OF CREDIT.
In essay, spelling and oratory
25 points will be given for win
ning first place, 15 for second
place, and 5 for third place. In
all athletic event 5 points will be
given for first place, 3 for second
and 1 for third.

Prizes will be given to the win
ners in each event. A prize will
be given to the school winning
the greatest number of points

MISS AMANDA HAYNES
ENTERS INTO REST.
Estimable and Aged Woman Of
Beersheba District Passed
Away Sunday Morning.
Miss Amanda Haynes died at
the home of Mr. George Stroud ip
Beersheba district Sunday morn
ing at 9 o’clock.
Miss Haynes was 77 years of
age and was a woman of excellent
Christian character. She had.
many friends who miss her and
mourn .her death.
The funeral and interment were
at Sardis Monday morning at 11
o’clock. Mr. Sam Fincher con
ducted the services.
Miss Haynes is survived by two
brothers, Messrs. Nathan Haynes
and Jim Haynes.
