HENRY COUNTY
MOVES FORWARD
Organization Meaning Much
for Her Progress Perfected
Monday —Full List of Offi
cers Elected.
For two or three months past a
movement has been quietly under
way which means much for the
progress and general good of
Henry county.
It was the securing of a Farm
Demonstration Agent, under aus
pices of the Government and State
Agricultural Departments.
The government agreed to pay
half the expenses necessary if the
county would assume half. With
this assurance, a canvas for pri
vate subscriptions was made and
soon the full amount was assured
by a number of our live citizens
who realized the benefits to be
derived from the movement.
As the result of a meeting of
those interested, the Henry Coun
ty Agricultural Association was
organized at the Court House last
Monday afternoon, with the fol
lowing officers elected:
J. T. Weems, President.
R. L. Turner, Sec. and Treas.
A. N. Brown, Dr. R J. Arnold,
A. G. Combs, S. C. McWilliams, A.
C. Norman, Vice Presidents.
Directors —W. G. Callaway,
Shakerag: S. K. Austin, Brushy
Knob; G. W. Hinton, Stockbridge;
C. T. Elliott, Fliopen; Epps Rowan,
Sixth; W. J. Turner, McMullens;
L. W. Patterson, Beersheba; R. C.
Walker, Lowes; H. H. Chinn,
Hampton; J. B. Newman, McDon
ough; J, D. Bowen, Loves; F. B.
Parr, Locust Grove; T. A. Barham,
Sandy Ridge; G. B. Childs Tussa
haw.
Mr, J. H. Hancock, a thoroughly
competent and practical farmer,
was selected by the Agricultural
Department as County Demon
strator, and his appointment con
firmed by the Association. Mr.
Hancock was present and accept
ed the appointment, his duties to
begin March Ist. Complete re
ports will be furnished regularly
to both Departments and the
County Association.
The object of the association
will be the promotion of all inter
ests of Henry county, and by co
operation of every class of citi
zens the beneficial results are un
limited.
It is but candor to accord to
Mr. Julian T. Weems full credit
for the working up of this ex
cellent movement. For it was he
who, single-handed, devoted his
time and energy to it, in a short
while securing the entire private
subscriptions for the county’s re
quired half.
A county fair is one of the first
probabilities, which if it does
not come at once will doubtless
surely follow.
Reports of progress from time
to time will be made; and no A T all
together for the Henry County
Agricultural Association let’s
wake up and do something.

: ley. Welcome address by Mr. H.
Is. Pless. Mr. Phillips of Atlanta,
| State Manager of the Fraternity,
was the speaker in charge, giving
many ideas on Woodcraft and Its
Basis, and what stands for the in
terest of the home was made so
plain that all could understand by
yoking themselves together in the
brotherhood of this fraternity
brotherly love will exist through
out the ages.
Mr. Lige Morris followed in his
casual way, proving that by be
coming a member of this order
the wife and children of the pro
vider would be benefited by the
insurance they carry while health
and earthly existence remains.
Music and singing added much
to the enjoyment. Also a Ladies
Circle was discussed with interest.
But best of all was the bountiful
spread, consisting of Brunswick
stew, oyster and tomato soups,;
sandwiches, coffee and cake.
Now it takes Christians to make
a model church and Christianity to
prove a success in all undertak
ings. So come together and all
help your fellowman by becoming
a member of the W. 0. W., and
organize a Circle, too.

months.
