Official Organ of Henry County. McDonough Ga., Nov. 24. 1916 With WILSON We Won. Peace and prosperity. And now it is the solid West. And Wilson almost carried Oys ter Bay. __ 4 Hughes carried the East, but Wilson carried the country. It was close, but it went right. California is certainly a great State. Those Western wheat growers were willing to let well enough alone. Knock the boll weevil in the head with a ham of meat, sagely remarks the DeKalb New Era. A fellow named A. I). The farmer who doesn’t raise his foodstuffs will never be inde pendent, even if cotton should go to fifty cents a pound, rightly savs the Walton Tribune. Hush, little boy, don’t you cry; the circus will be here by and by. —Crawfordviile Democrat. Hush, little girlie, don’t you fret; some little fellow will Dick you yet. —Walton Tribune. Needless to sav that where such is the case the results are most gratifying. Still there are many sections of our country where this is not the case —many sections where ig norance is still at a premium. This should not be. No child should ever be permitted to reach maturity without being given the ground work of a liberal educa tion. ' There can be no greater menace to the safety of this republic than that of ignorance. It is the father of crime and the mother of trea son. Of late we have been deluged with argument for national pre iiui cu...os. x o ua. > • in_ the mo i •. fiecuve urtpued ness that this nation couid attain to wouid be to see that every child within its borders is lifted above the soul paralyzing si >ugh of ignorance. It would be worth more than the entire heavy ordi nance of the kaiser or all the dreadnaughts of Britain. “Vox populi, vox Dei” is indeed a noble sentiment, but it is true only in so far as the voice of the people is the voice of an enlight ened, intelligent people. It were a mockery of an omniscient God to suppose otherwise. Let us as a people awake to the great fact that this land can never be what the Creator intended it should be until our people are all intelligent, educated, well inform ed citizens. There are few social or political problems of which education is not the sure solution. —Griffin News. This—and Five Cents! Don’t Miss 'I his.
