The vacant lot adjoining Mr. Asa Lemon is being prepared for cultivation by our worthy friend, Walter Thompson, who is going to practice what he preaches. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Newt Barnett, of Hampton district deeply sympathize with them in the death of their Lttle ten-year old daughter, Annie Mae, which occurred last Friday night. The remains were lain to rest at Lib erty Hill Sunday, Rev. Howard Adamson officiating- Brannan-Knight. Call at Weewly office, pay for this notice and get them. H omer Brannan Makes First Patriotic Response. By leaving last Saturday to en list in the United States army at Fort McPherson, near Atlanta, Homer Brannan heads the Mc- Donough list of volunteers under the call to patriotism upon the declaration of war with Germany. With deliberate determination he responded to his country’s call to patriotism, setting a worthy example to his young fellowinen, and piloted by Postmaster Scott, left home and friends Saturday morning to enter his name upon the honor roll. Homer is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brannan living just north of McDonough, and for the past six or eight months has been an attachee of The Weekly lore . He is a most excellent, faithful young man, and with him out best and most fervent good wishes go. In :r parting talk with The Weekly editor he made the touch touching statement that he was willing to die for his country if necessary, as our forefathers had fought to free it and we should be willing to fight to protect it. May his fullest and brightest ambition be relaized. A day or two later, Mr. Harry Turner came up from Cairo, and wftlv.several others from different sections of Henry county, we learn, has also enlisted. Annual Reception. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Copeland were host and hostess at the an nual reception of the Woman’s Missionary Society of the Presby terian church, on March 30th. The guests were entertained with a pleasant and profitable program. Refreshments consist ed of a salad course, Coffee, ice cream and cake. Mr. and Mrs. Copeland were as sisted in receiving and entertain ing by Mrs. Turner Allensworth, Misses Blanche Wentzeli, Jeanette Liddeli, Mamie Williams, Lucy McDonald, Persia Griggs, Mattie McDonald and Edith Eilington. Bail Elliott filled the pulpit at Salem Sunday in the absence of the pastor, Rev. Homer Adamson, he being called to Liberty Hill to hold a funeral service. The E ister program at Timber ridge was beautifully rendered last Sunday. A large crowd of visitors were present which we appreciated. Much credit is due this band of workers for having *!he little ones trained so well. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Glass were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry El liott last Sunday. Messrs. H F. Elliott, Leon and Worthy Blankenship attended the Masonic exercises at McDonough last Friday night. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Smith is quite sick at their home near Tirnberridge. She was thought to be improving last Sun day. Master Lewis Selfridge and little sister, Annie Lue, spent last week end with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fannin. I One Two.
